My Chat with James Wood!

Hello and welcome!

There is a new release today from a friend I met through a game I’ve been playing for a few years now.

I am so excited for him, I had to 1-click.

Do you have a nickname?
No

What is one word best describes you?
Hopeful

What makes you laugh out loud?
Sly humor, funny sarcasm

What is your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
My wife’s perfume, it reminds me of all the special times we have adventured around together over the last twenty years.

Favourite place to spend time in.
A country bar listening to music, a cold beer in my hand.

Favourite quote.
“Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war” – William Shakespeare

Is there a genre that you refuse to read?
Paranormal Romance.

Writing! What started it?
It was a bucket list item. Once I started writing about the grim Knight and his dark Princess I found it came to me easily and I could turn out a lot of material in a short period of time. I first put “pen to paper” on 11/14/22 and since then I have written three full length novels as a part-time author in just under a year.

If you could choose another career what would it be?
Writing is my part-time career, but it is something I would like to eventually turn into a full-time gig. Not there yet, several years to go still, I’m sure.

Audiobooks! What started them?
Everyone is way too busy! I listen to audiobooks almost daily, but I only read two or three times a week. Audiobooks are the way to go, and my forthcoming narration is amazing! I am so excited with the demo’s and voices my narrator developed to bring my book to life! I have every intention of providing an audiobook option for all three of my books.

Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
Yes. My stories are not clear cut good vs evil, light vs dark. I wanted to explore the greys. My protagonists are complex with troubled backgrounds and issues of their own. I have been extremely gratified that the advance reviews I have received so far all keyed into that – it makes for a better read, I think.

Who is your intended audience and why should they read your books?
16-18+ is the audience, my books are not Harry Potter or Twilight. I would term them as dark urban fantasy with a splash of romance and a twist of humor. The battle scenes are intense, and there are a couple of “near misses” of horrific things, so adults are my intended audience.

What is next in your writing?
If the series does well commercially I can write a book 4 and 5 in the world of the Ebon Knight. If they take some time to build a fan base then I will turn to my first love, which is horror. I have an idea for a horror short story anthology with a unique twist in which readers could vote for their favorite stories to be expanded on, either with the same characters, or in the same world, etc. I have twenty one-page summaries of each of the ideas I could write about… I would probably take the top sixteen and run with it as my fourth offering if The Chronicles of the Ebon Knight are stalled. I just don’t want to write in a vacuum.

Thank you James for chatting with me. Congrats again on the new release! I am looking forward to reading it, also to the audiobook when releases. I also pre-ordered book 2 😉

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope you enjoyed the chat. I sure did 🙂
Here is the brand new release!
~ Message From The Author ~
The Ebon Knight is the first in a trilogy of books with elements of quirky humor, perilous danger, and forbidden attraction during an extremely dangerous time. If you like plot surprises that aren’t ludicrous, villains you will love to hate, heroes with a few rough edges, and exciting battles where the “good guys” don’t always have the upper hand—then welcome!
Any fan of urban fantasy and readers of Jim Butcher, Brad Magnarella, and John Conroe will feel right at home!
Buy Links: Amazon USAmazon CA
Add it to your Goodreads TBR list
It will be released in audio format too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The series… I love the covers!

The Ebon Knight Chronicles

Book 2, The Dark Witch is up for preorder to release December 18, 2023.

Ruin and Woe.

Kelso Hart, the grim Knight of myth and legend, has been grievously wounded and is at death’s door. The youngest Princess of the Dark, Ava Pentran, risked it all to save him and will risk yet more to see him recover. Storm clouds gather around from all sides as the two outcasts regroup at a safe harbor, surrounded by friends and companions, old and new. Enemies from the Dark, the Light, and the Other are all on the march against them, and Ava’s shadowed half, the Dark Witch, may be the only force that can save them – but at what cost?

This second adventure takes place directly after the events of the first book with the same sly humor, heroic actions and unforgiving danger that are the hallmarks of this exciting series. With this installment, the world of the Ebon Knight expands and new mysteries in the Conflict are revealed with world shattering implications. Are you ready for more villains, more heroes, and more brutal battles where the “bad guys” might just have the upper hand? If that sounds like a good read to you then welcome back!

Indie Authors – 2021 Catalogue

Hello and welcome!

I have some news, good news, for both authors and readers. Read on to see what one of my fave authors, Erika M. Szabo has to say in her news.

Welcome back to my blog Erika! For those of you who missed my previous chats with Erika, you can read them here and here. One of her heroines came for a chat back in 2015, check it out here.
Thank you for having me Eniko!

I came across this post on your Facebook mentioning your online magazine. I flipped through it and I think it is such a great idea for both authors and readers. For those interested check it out HERE.

How did this come about?
I started publishing my book teasers as 3D flip-books and readers seem to like it a lot more than my newsletters. In May, I abandoned my newsletter because less and less people opened them, and I started publishing what I usually added to my newsletters, as monthly online magazines with fun, short anecdotes and book teasers. It pains me to see how much the Indie authors spend on promotion, so I stated adding Indie books by fellow authors.

Why do you think it will work?
The flip-book type magazines are easy to read on computers, phones, or tablets, easy to share them on social sites, and they can be embedded into website and blog pages.

I also saw the post about the call-out to Indie authors to sign up for the 2021 catalogue. How much is the fee to be included?
I’m planning to publish an author catalog in January, to introduce Indie authors. The magazines I put together previously, Meet the Author Gang and the anthology One Picture Thousands of Words had been very successful in spreading the word about the authors. Both had been read by thousands and because the magazines are displayed on the shelf, readers are regularly click and read them.

The entry fee is $5 per page to the Author Catalog. Authors who have 8 or less books published, they can fit everything on one page. Authors who have more books can fit everything on 2 pages.

In my monthly magazines, $2 per book on pages where I add 6 books with genre and link, and $5 where I add 2 books with blurb and link per page.

What can the authors who sign up expect?
Although the magazines are shared by many and read by thousands, I can’t promise sales for everyone. I can only promise a lot of exposure, the rest is up to the readers. My experience is that readers tend to click on the catchiest book covers to read about the books, and they tend to click on author links if they find the bio interesting or fascinating.

Who should they contact to sign up or get more info?
Interested authors can ask to join the Facebook group I created for this purpose where I share the info and ask any questions that come up.

Being an avid reader, I always look for info from my prospective.
What can readers expect from a digital magazine?

Every magazine, book teaser, or anthology I publish is reader oriented, except the ones I specifically publish to help authors such as the Self-Publishing issue.

In my monthly magazines I try to add short stories and anecdotes that readers can enjoy as well as books from authors they might not know yet.

For example, the October issue had spooky stories and poems, fun Halloween recipes and decoration ideas, as well as books fit for Halloween.

I create author portfolios as well check out mine for example.

The One Picture Thousands of Words was a fun project. I gave a picture to the participating authors to write a story based on the feelings they were getting from looking at it. The end result was amazing! Every author saw something different in the picture and everyone wrote something different in various genres.

Thank you Erika for the most enlightening chat, looking forward to read about new-to-me authors in your digital magazines. Let me know when you decide to do one for bloggers too 😉

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I hope you found this as interesting as I did and share this with your fave authors. The authors who read my blog, I hope to see you in the 2021 Indie Catalogue.
Check out Ms. Szabo’s digital portfolio here. It is a lot of fun.
Until next time, happy book reading / listening and don’t forget to show your love by leaving a review!
My Chat with S. Hamil
Hello and welcome!
Today I would like to introduce you to Sharon Hamilton‘s ‘twisted’ sister. When I read that first time in her newsletter, it made me crack up.
Please welcome S. Hamil!
Do you have a nickname?
LOL. I once had a boyfriend who called me “HotLips” from Mash. Yes, I admit to being a little sexually repressed growing up in a conservative church-going household. I wasn’t allowed a lot of things. When I began dating, well, let’s just say the whole world opened up for me. I think I have the Minister’s Daughter syndrome.
What is one word best describes you?
I’m driven, compassionate, care about people and my readers, love exploring emotional trails and shadows, looking for clues. I’m curious, positive, and never want to act my age.
What makes you laugh out loud?
I guess clothing mishaps, unintended circumstances happening to people who try to control everything… Just daily little things that make me smile. I don’t like bullies, big mouths, braggarts or insincere people. It hurts me if I forget someone, but even something painful can cause me to laugh. Like someone falling down in the cafeteria at school, spilling their lunch. That almost made me pee. (Don’t ask).
What is your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
I love the smell of fresh, red roses. I love So. African lilies, lavender, vanilla and the “cotton” scent in air fresheners.Favourite place to spend time in.
I love bustling coffee shops. Love bakeries and donut shops (the smell), love movie theaters and sometimes I spend all day trying to see as many as I can! Love buttered popcorn. I love live plays and musicals, love the symphony, art galleries and cruising. I especially love the long ones that go across the Atlantic.
Is there a genre that you refuse to read?
BDSM and anything too graphic when it comes to women’s pain or children being raped. No way. I don’t care if it’s true or not. Not in my library.
Writing! What started it?
My house burned down in 2008 and I was put up in my apartment for 18 months. My husband had to stay at the house because of our animals. After 40 years almost of marriage, I was suddenly alone again. I watched all the TV I could stomach, then read until I got tired, and then started to write. And I never looked back nor went back to my previous job again.
If you could choose another career what would it be?
Interior Decorating, I’d own a nursery, I’d be a permanent author-in-residence on The World ship. A beachcomber and searcher of shells.
Audiobooks! What started them?
Amazon actually helped and paid for my first one, helped show me the process.
Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
True Love Heals In The Gardens Of The Heart. I believe in true love, and that it brings out the best in us all, and it heals powerfully.
Who is your intended audience and why should they read your books?
Women who want to escape, who also want to celebrate heroes, either dark beings who do good things or military heroes. This applies to both pen names: S. Hamilton and Sharon Hamilton.
Why the switch / the new name?
My Amazon page was getting so stuffed with SEAL books, which require a different branding, that the paranormals were getting sent to page 3 or 4, so readers were never seeing them. Not everyone comes to my website to look over what my series are.
So, I added S. Hamil as a primary author, and thereby created a separate Amazon page so readers could see other books my paranormal readers bought. Not just the SEAL books.
I’ll always continue to write SEALs. I’m not giving up one to do the other, but I’m asking for help in building up the other. They are such distinctive genres, that I wanted to give them a little wall of separation. And I didn’t want to fool readers into thinking they had to re-purchase my books when they already had bought them before. So S. Hamil was created!
What is next in your writing?
I’m doing a billionaire bachelor SEAL, I’m also writing a rom-com older SEAL, more Silver Fox SEALs, and spinoffs from my original SEAL Brotherhood series. As S. Hamil I have another series I want to launch: Paranormal Warriors, former SEALs immortalized. Coming 2021. Will be my first big venture into this.
Paranormal Warriors? Oh that sounds so good, I am looking forward to plunge into the new world. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule and chat with me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well, there you have it. Hope you enjoyed and will give the Amazon page a like and do check the website out. Lots of interesting things to see and read. The blog posts are entertaining too.

If you missed My Chat with Sharon Hamilton in 2015 (wow that was a long time ago), check it out here.

Here are the links where you can check out the books and follow Sharon Hamilton and her ‘twisted’ sister!
LOL still giggling over that one

websiteTwitterFacebookGoodreadsPinterestInstagramyoutube

All books are available in audio format too, so if you like to listen then head to Audible, you will love JD Hart‘s smexy voice whispering in your ear 😉
A few audio codes are available for the PNR series audiobooks, UK and US, so make sure you request it in your comment and I will pass along your interest.

To start you on your reading journey, two lucky readers will be gifted by Ms. Hamilton, one signed book each, winner’s choice from either “The Guardian Series” (except the newly released “Redemption” not in print or audio yet) or “Golden Vampires of Tuscany Series”.

The winners, chosen by Sexy Mr. Random, will be announced after 3pm, EST, Monday, August 3, 2020. GOOD LUCK!

My Chat with Pépé G. Woodman!

Hello and welcome!

I am so happy on my first blog post of the new year to introduce a brand new author.

Please welcome Pépé G. Woodman!

A warrior of P.T.S.D., Pépé G. Woodman has opened up his lifetime experience in the wake of trauma. A carpenter for more than 30 years, he shares his love of nature and creativity on many levels, through crafting wood and photography.

pepe-1.jpg

Do you have a nickname?
Pepe is my nickname I’ve come up with that one many years ago during my DJing years. Also I started a band called the Tweed Twangerz and my name was Pepe.
My real name is Pierre Guignard. I came up with the G from my last name and Woodman cuz I love working with wood so altogether Pepe G Woodman was born or reborn as it were.

What is one word best describes you?
I would have to say the one word that describes me the best be “unfiltered”. 😀

What makes you laugh out loud?
A truly humorous yet clever jokes or someone’s laughter to a joke are my favourite that make me laugh out loud.

What is your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
My favourite smell would have to truly be fresh laundry from the line outside. It reminds me that I’m actually able to relax.

Favourite place to spend time in.
I absolutely love being in nature taking hikes discovering and taking photographs.

Is there a genre that you refuse to read?
I don’t per se refuse to read any type of genre, I enjoy reading for knowledge. If there is something I don’t know, I either ask somebody, or I do research and that consists of a lot of reading. If I have to go into various genres to find information, so be it. All writing is valuable.

Writing! What started it?
I was diagnosed with PTSD 6+ years ago. Looking at my photographs, the places that I’ve been made me reminisce about positive things I felt being in those places, so I began to start writing into the photos that I take. In doing so, I discovered I could actually write a book.

If you could choose another career what would it be?
I have never committed myself to one trade or work experience. I’m a man of many talents this I have finally accepted. I am a carpenter by trade, but if I had to choose another career, it would be a wilderness tour guide hands down.

Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
The work that I do is carpentry or I problem solve and do home repairs and maintenance. For my clients I see satisfaction in their faces.

rings.jpg
As for other works I create wooden rings and the message in my rings are all personal to the individual that owns one.

Pepe-woodwork.jpg

Who is your intended audience and why should they read your books?
My intended audience would be people with PTSD like myself, but hearing back from readers that purchased the book, I have discovered it can be for anyone.

What is next in your writing?
I truly would like to do part two of my first book. Maybe write my life story in the hopes that it would help all types of people of all races and of all genders.

Thank you Pépé for chatting with me and I am looking forward to the next book.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope you enjoyed the chat and will join Pépé in his writing adventure.
He made his debut at KaLiCon 2019 and was excited to be one of the ones that were there to congratulate and celebrate with him.
The Dragon Within: Healing Through A Lens In The Tranquility of Nature
A warrior of P.T.S.D., Pépé G. Woodman shares his personal journey of healing through a lens in the tranquility of nature. Inside this breathtaking collection of nature in all its glory, Pépé includes a few extra blank pages for the reader to journal their own thoughts and reflections as they share this healing experience.
print-book.jpg
My review: 5 stars
I read the book over a few days and it was really good, such a heartfelt and inspirational story. It can be taken in small doses because it makes you think, at the same time, giving you hope that it can get better. As one suffering from PTSD, I found it helpful, enforcing the feeling that I am not alone. The photos were amazing, showing the tranquility in nature and the power of it over our psyche. The word play, coming up with positive words for the letters PTSD was well done. I recommend the book for anybody who likes photography and want to know more on one man’s struggle and continuous search for brighter days.
Pépé played Xavier Cross in the Murder Mystery Dinner theatre at KaLiCon and he was amazing. The play was based on the book Invited, A Dinner to Die For by Kali Willows and Kacey Hammell, there was one copy in the last giveaway on this blog 😉
Check out his website for all the awesome creations in wood here. I purchased a ring and then I won a second one in one of his giveaways on FB. Love them.
I would love to gift you, or a loved one who you think could benefit from this book, a copy of The Dragon Within. Tell me what you do to lift your spirits on a bad day. Sexy Mr. Random will pick the winner from the comments, after 3pm EST on Monday, January 6, 2020. GOOD LUCK!
My Chat with Susan Hayes!
Hello and welcome!
My today’s guest is an author I’ve been following for a few years now. Her books are out of this world awesome.
SH-banner.jpg
Please welcome Susan Hayes!
Do you have a nickname?
My parents usually call me Snooper. A childhood nickname because I carried a Snoopy stuffy with me for years.
What makes you laugh out loud?
British comedies.
What is your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
The ocean. I’ve lived on an island for most of my life. Every time I leave the ocean, I miss the smell. To me, that’s the scent of home.
Favourite place to spend time in.
My home. I’m a homebody at heart.
Is there a genre that you refuse to read?
I don’t read anything to do with True Crime. I spent ten years reading and processing police files as a career. True Crime just doesn’t appeal to me because of that.
Writing! What started it?
I’ve always been a writer. Even as a kid, I loved writing my own stories. I didn’t find the courage to try and get published until much later in life. My little brother died suddenly, and I was realized that life is too short not to take chances.
susan-hayes-quote-011.png
Audiobooks! What started them?
The day ACX ,Audible’s creation side, opened their doors to Canadian writers, I was in! I love audiobooks.
Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
I write romances with strong heroines from diverse backgrounds because I believe every woman deserves her Happily Ever After.
Who is your intended audience, and why should they read your books?
My intended audience is anyone who loves Sci-Fi and Paranormal Romance with a hint of humour and a whole lot of sizzle.
What is next in your writing?
I am working on the next trilogy of stories for my Star-Crossed Alien Mail Order Bride series. They’ll be releasing this fall.
Thank you Susan for spending time with me. I am a big fan and looking forward to listen to more of your stories.
Hope you enjoyed my chat with Ms. Hayes.
Susan lives on Vancouver Island, off the Canadian west coast where the waters are patrolled by orcas, and the sighting of snowflakes leads to citywide panic. She’s jumped out of perfectly good airplanes on purpose and accidentally swum with sharks on the Great Barrier Reef.
If the world ends, she plans to survive as the spunky, comedic sidekick to the heroes of the new world, because she’s too short and out of shape to make it on her own for long.
As I mentioned, her books are out of this world, my love affair with them started a few years ago when I picked up the first audiobook in The Drift series, Double Down. The heroines are spunky and heroes dreamy alpha creatures.
The Drift Series.png
and I have almost worked my way thru Intergalactic Dating Agency series.
Intergalactic Dating Agency.png
Tieran Wilder is the voice giving them life and it is addictive. She has that warm voice that draws the listener in. I like that I can hear the emotions and moods behind the words and each character is distinctive.
I had the pleasure of meeting Susan a few times at RTC Ottawa, she is fun and a delight to be around.
You can check out her books on the website, so many to choose from: SCIENCE FICTION ROMANCE, PARANORMAL ROMANCE, CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE.
Follow on FB, Twitter and Instagram.
Also check out the 5-part posts on ACX’s blog sharing her journey into the audiobook world from a Canadian author’s perspective, informative and detailed.
My Chat with Erika M. Szabo – 2019
Hello and welcome!
My guest is one of my fave authors, we chatted before and I also chatted with one of her heroine, Ilona from The Ancestors’ Secrets Trilogy. If you missed these chats, you can read them here and here. I invited her to give us an update on what is new.
Please welcome back, Erika M. Szabo!
Erika-2019.jpg
Thanks for inviting me back for another chat.
For those of you who don’t know my work, I write speculative alternate history fiction, romantic urban fantasy, historical suspense novels as well as fun, educational, and bilingual books for children ages 2-14 about acceptance, friendship, family, and moral values such as accepting people with disabilities, dealing with bullies, and not judging others before getting to know them. I also like to encourage children to use their imagination and daydream about fantasy worlds.
Why children’s books?
As a young child, I truly hated the “And they lived happily ever after” stories. The beautiful, dumb and helpless princess waited for the handsome, brave prince who rescued her, and they lived happily ever after. I asked my mom, “Why can’t the princess kick the dragon’s butt? Why is she laying there waiting for the prince? Isn’t she smart and strong enough to get away?
My mom shook her head and said, “This is the way it is. The prince rescues the princess, and that’s that.
Mom loved dressing me up in pretty dresses and kind of parade me in church. Gosh, I hated those bows she put in my hair and I could hardly wait to get home and get out of the itchy, uncomfortable dress and put my faded, ripped jeans on. My dad, maybe because he wanted a boy, encouraged me to get dirty while I helped him to fix the car, hammer nails when we fixed the fence, or dig a hole to plant trees. He also taught me how to defend myself against bullies and stand up for myself and express my opinion. “You’re a person,” he always said. “It doesn’t matter if you’re a girl or a boy, you’re a person.
Later on when I was a teenager, most of the stories written for kids were about brave and smart boys who met and helped pretty girls and puppy love developed between them. I was so happy to find children’s books as an adult that were about smart girls who can stand up for themselves and don’t need a boy’s help when they’re in trouble. I also found some books that were about girls and boys as equally smart, inventive and brave. These stories told children that it’s okay for boys to cry and show compassion. It’s okay for girls to be themselves in ripped and dirty jeans playing soccer, and they don’t always have to look pretty in ruffled dresses and be quiet and submissive as society expects them to be.
Where do you get inspiration from?
From childhood memories such as when the old spinster in my neighborhood tried to drown kittens in the river and my friend and I rescued the kittens.
When a group of kids pointed and laughed at a little girl who was sitting in the wheelchair, struggling to turn onto the ramp at the museum entrance.
When I saw a sister and brother bickering, calling each other names and ready to tear each other’s hair out at the beach. But, when the little girl fell and hit her knee on a rock, all the bickering was forgotten in an instant. The boy hugged his sister and carried her to the blanket where their mother was reading.
Here are a few of my published children’s books that are close to my heart.
Kittens.png
Illustrated storybook for children 4-12
When Bianca, Daniel, and Peanut, the St. Bernard, are confronted by Mark and his cronies, the children stand up to the brute bullies with the help of Peanut. Their adventure continues when they see a woman throwing four tiny, meowing kittens into the river. Can the children save the drowning kittens? Find out what happens to the momma cat and her kittens.
This book is precious to me not only because it’s a true story but because little Johnny never found out what happened to the kittens.
As a young nurse, I worked in the pediatric unit for a short while. Johnny was a nine-year-old cute as a button little boy who had leukemia and loved the childhood memory I told him about. I never had a chance to tell him the end of the story. There were only a few minutes left to tell him how Daniel and I dealt with the neighborhood bullies, but when I entered little Johnny’s room the next morning, his bed was empty.
I wrote this Heroic fantasy for children 6-14 with my coauthor, Joe Bonadonna.
~ S E Lindberg
The ghosts of the Trinity of Wishmothers are trapped. The children offer their help, so the talking skeleton takes them on a journey to the realm of Creepy Hollow. Righteous motivations drive Jack and Nikki: to protect the weak, confront evil, conquer their fears, and gain courage. Pico.jpg
I wrote this bilingual book because I know first hand the struggle of learning a new language and the frustration when people don’t know enough to express themselves.
In this bilingual story for ages 4-12, Pico, the parrot, is sad and frustrated. He screeches and squawks all day but because he speaks Spanish, nobody understands him. His story teaches children acceptance, compassion, and helping others.
Sarah, Emma’s mom, promised to bird-sit Pico for two weeks but soon regrets her decision because the noisy parrot keeps screeching and squawking all day, annoying her family and the neighbors. When Pico makes a mess of Emma’s room, Emma gets very angry, but her friends help her. Charlotte notices that Pico seems sad, and Pedro finds out why Pico is shrieking so loudly all the time. The parrot is frustrated because nobody pays attention to him, and nobody understands what he wants.
ComeAsYouAre-banner.png
My next release is COME AS YOU ARE, coming April 16. In it you’ll find a masquerade ball, a smoldering secret rendezvous, and a sexy, billionaire hero who will sweep you off your feet in this opposite-sides-of-the-tracks romance.
Thank you so much for chatting with me, Lauren. I know you are quite busy. Looking forward to more stories and finding new book boyfriends and girlfriends in your stories.
Wanderlust
The latest book from Ms. Blakely I listened to is Wanderlust, narrated beautifully by Grace Grant and Richard Armitage, it is part of the Romance Package on Audible, but I bought my own copy, so I have it in my library and can listen to it anytime…. an aural masterpiece for sure, my fave so far, as are the many stories I listened to, they were all 5-star experiences. My review is here.
I urge you to give them a try, I know you will enjoy them. A few of the ebooks are free right now for a limited time ….
4covers
…. and there are quite a few of the audiobooks in the Audible Romance Package, narrated by some of my fave voices: Zachary Webber, Andi Arndt, Sebastian York, Erin Mallon, some new-to-me voices Josh Goodman, Todd Haberkorn, Emily Durante, Samara Naeymi.
My Chat with M. A. Abraham and her first audiobook release
Hello and welcome!
Do you remember at the beginning of the year I posted about First Contact, book 1 of the Tantalus series by M. A. Abraham being recorded? If not, you can check it out here.
Well… it is done and was released TODAY!!!
Help me congratulate Ms. Abraham and share her big news. Her very first audiobook release and I am soooo excited! I loved the story when I read it. Listening to Brian Callanan, the very talented narrator giving it life, makes it even more special.
Congrats to Mr. Callanan too, looking forward to listening to more. My ears really like his voices 😉
Check out the short audio clips on youtube…
Twenty ships have left the gravitational field of the Earth with the intention of colonizing Mars. Each is independent of the other and set to become domed cities upon landing. The mission is simple: go forth to develop the new planet, make it an extension of our home. Well, it sounded simple.
No one expected life on Mars to be easy, they are pioneers and that is a type of life that comes with dangers. What they didn’t expect was for the settings of one of the ships to be off enough to miss their landing, to miss the very planet they were meant to settle.
Even more astounding was to find another planet within a three-week travel period that lies in the shadow of the red planet. It is where they will land, where their ship will unfold to become a domed city. Where life is dangerous in a hostile land and they find unexpected help. The indigenous winged people of the planet don’t live on the surface of the planet, they live in cities in the clouds, but they are willing to extend a welcoming hand to those who have come to their land, as well as teach them what they can to survive. Their relationship begins with three words.
“Welcome to Tantalus.”
Here is a clip of the story at the beginning of the book …
… and here is one at the end and one of my fave scene in the book, I got goosebumps reading it, but listening to Mr. Callanan telling it … he captured the characters and their temperaments very well and the voice he gave for my love, Kyllan, the Tribunal Elder is PERFECTION
I got to chat with Ms. Abraham about her experience…
Tell us about Tantalus.
Tantalus is basically about a planet that is inhabited by people that have been seeded from other worlds.  There is more than 1 species on it, but the main one is the winged people who are dominant.  They are open to interaction with others, but are not deluded as to the problems that could cause, or the negative, as well as positive sides of the relationship this could cause.  They also realize that they are not perfect, for those that should have been watching over the direction the main population took during their rest period, neglected their duties and it had very adverse reactions from the order of things on the planet.  They are not only being approached by people from the Human race, as they wake up to what needs to be done to correct their error, but the restructuring of their social and governmental order within their own people.
First Choice… why the format of parallel stories?
You have to know where you are coming from, to have any idea where you are going.  The people from Earth have to make the trip to get to the planet.  We need to know what it took, and the problems they encountered on their journey.  Also, things are going to take a while to improve.
How did you come to decision to plunge into audiobook world?
Well, I had this little voice poking at my subconscious mind for a few years.  We all know who owns it.  I need not say more.
I am grinning big and fist pump yessssss
What is the process from deciding to go for it and releasing the audiobook? Was it easier or harder than you anticipated?
Deciding to go for it was making sure that the funds were in place before taking the initial step.  Once you get past the first hurdle, it doesn’t seem to be that difficult.  Getting the right narrator for the task is a huge plus.  It seems simple when you find the right person for the book, one who can connect with the feel for the people you are writing about.  I think in most cases it is like anything else, the wrong impression can destroy something that you believe is good, or it can make something mediocre sound like a song to be repeated many times over.
Personal feelings… are you excited, apprehensive?
Nervous as a cat trying to bury something on a marble floor before getting caught.  I am even having difficulty writing, and I need to get these books written, I am way behind.
What is the reaction of those close to you to this new adventure?
Some are pacing with me, others are not audiobook fans.  It is like picking a car, Ford, Chrysler, Mercedes, GM… one person’s poison is another’s candy.
Why should people pick up this book?
Because it may give you a different perspective from what is on the market today.  I do not tend to follow the beaten path when it comes to writing, which means you can expect something different.
How was working with Mr. Callanan… from author’s point of view?
Brian is very professional, if something is off, he catches it, even if it is something that shouldn’t be there.  He caught the nuances of the characters right off the top, and the few he didn’t, he rethought when it was pointed out.  Some narrators won’t listen to what you have to offer for advice.  Those I tended to reject straight off, the last thing a writer needs is more stress in their lives.
Are you glad you did this?
Well, we will find out.  I have done a lot of crazy things in my life and often the ones I thought were the nuttiest, were the best.
Why didn’t you do this sooner?
I looked into it, but unlike some, I don’t jump off a mountain unless I know there is a safety net beneath me.
Why Tantalus first and not the Elven Chronicles, which is the bigger selling series of the two?
The right narrator at the right moment.  Gabriel was up there, but 90% of the auditions were just wrong for that book.  The one I am looking at right now nailed all the names, and that is a feat in itself.
What is the strangest question you have had someone ask about the Tantalus Series?
Why I didn’t connect them to the Elves.  I could hear it now, Elves in space using light sabres.  That would have been so wrong.  Then again, who knows, the night is young.  😉
What is next?
Aura – and I have heard the audition that makes that book come alive already.  It will be done in February, and I am soooo looking forward to it.
Me too! It is my fave standalone book of yours! I can’t wait to hear Thorn sigh
Integration, book 2 in the Tantalus series, will be done in April and so you know the narrator on this book, to quote someone we all know,  “The scintillating voice of Brian Callanan will narrate this masterpiece”.
LOL I remember that
Thank you so much MA for chatting with me and I wish you much success with this new adventure. I am looking forward to more stories and my ears are ready for more audio time.
To celebrate the brand new release. Ms. Abraham is giving away a few audio copies of First Contact. Let me know in the comments if you would leave Earth for Tantalus if it was an option. I would be on the first ship! 😀
My Chat with Greg… and Natasza?
Hello and welcome!
I just had to bump today’s post for the hunk you are about to meet.
Please welcome Greg! …. and Natasza? What an awesome surprise!
Do you have a nickname?
Greg: My team name in the Canadian JTF2 is Bigfoot. JTF stands for Joint Task Force for those who don’t know. We’re smaller in numbers than the SEALs, but we operate the same way, land, sea and air.
What is one word best describes you?
Greg rubs the back of his neck and gives me a hungry look from below his bangs. Used to be manwhore. My team is a little on the hardass side. Now, I’d say loyal. Completely and utterly loyal to my wife, Mattie.
What makes you laugh out loud?
Greg: Until I met Mattie Bidault, not a helluva lot, but now I can’t help laughing when she gets pissed at me. She’s got the Irish temper and a tongue to match.
What is your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
Greg: Wow, I’d have to say the ocean. I joined the Navy over twenty years ago. Never tired of it. It used to mean freedom to me. Now that Mattie and I live in San Diego, it means home.
Favourite place to spend time in.
Greg chuckles. You really want me to answer that? For a long time I probably would have said the Dark Angel. It’s a special club in Victoria, but now I’d say just hangin’ out with my girl. Doesn’t really matter where.
Writing! What started it?
Greg: Guess that questions for Nat.
Natasza: Because of a friend of a friend who visited me one summer afternoon. This gal had escaped a life of absolute nightmares. Sold by her parents into prostitution, she finally escaped with a young man and came to Canada. She ended up on my patio and we talked about the things we hadn’t accomplished in life. When I mentioned I used to write. She looked at me with those big blue haunted eyes and asked, ‘Why don’t you now?’ I didn’t have a good answer. That night, I sat down at my computer and started to write again. That was 2010, and I haven’t stopped since.
I am so glad you did!
If you could choose another career what would it be?
Greg: I’m doing it now. I used to be a Canadian Warfare Specialist. Anti-terrorism, diplomatic missions, that kind of thing. Now, I work at NAB Coronado as a specialist teaching SEALs.
Audiobooks! Any plans to have any of your books in audio format?
Natasza: I looked into it, and I’d love to give it a try. It’s on my to-do list when I retire.
I would love to listen to Thane’s voice … or Mace’s *sigh*
Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
Natasza: Always. For A Warrior’s Challenge series, especially. Each book in the series addresses the life of a Special Operator, either a SEAL or in Greg’s case JTF2. When you protect Uncle Sam or Canada, there’s a price to pay. Each book delves into those hot topics, aside from the ones between the bed sheets.
Who is your intended audience and why should they read your books?
Greg: I’ll take this one.
Nat shrugs.
Go for it.
Greg: I think Nat’s audience is anyone who wants a little truth in their novels as well as high impact suspense or action. She’s not bad at writing contemporary stories, but the tales she writes with a military twist gives her more room to dig into the emotional side of the characters. If readers like a book with depth and intensity, those are the folks who’ll like Nat’s work.
Nat chuckles. Well said.
I agree!
What is next in your writing?
Natasza: The next book out the door will be the last for A Warrior’s Challenge series, called Code Name: War of Stones. It’s gonna rock the boat…big time. After that, I’ve got a new series starting this fall. The next series is about a team of retired SEALs and has a strong paranormal twist to it. Looking forward to that and retirement from the Coast Guard this fall when I can write full time.
I am so looking forward to more.
Thank you Greg for coming for a chat! And Natasza ! You always manage to surprise me LOL keeps me on my toes 😉 Congrats on your new release!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thanks for joining us and I hope you enjoyed the chat.

Greg hails from the just released “Code Name: Redemption”, book 6 in “A Warrior’s Challenge” Series by Natasza Waters. I met him before in the previous books, but I am glad he got his own story, I wondered what happened to him. I started it last night and it it so good.

CodeNameRedemption-banner.jpg

Rugged. Mysterious. Dangerous.

Lieutenant Commander Greg LaPierre, a Special Forces Operator, returns home after a seven-month deployment. He wants to shake combat from his back, but only days after his arrival the police accuse him of murder.

Someone is slaughtering women and leaving them at historic locations in the emerald city of Victoria. Whispers of Whitechapel drape the cobblestone streets with fear. Mattie Bidault, a local journalist, has been following the case from the beginning, and Greg is either innocent or she’s falling for the deadliest serial killer since Jack the Ripper.

My Chat with Kali Willows

Hello and welcome!

Today my guest is a sweet, sweet lady I met a few times now and it is always such a pleasure chatting with her. Her books are out of this world, pun intended 😉

I love this quote of hers!

quote1.jpg

Please welcome Kali Willows!

If you remember I had a few of her hunks for a chat, there was Connor from Romancing the Author and then there was the trio from Claiming TrinityTrinity, Arawn and Kane. Click on the links if you missed them or they are worth a reread if you didn’t 😉

Born and raised in Toronto, Kali now resides in the exquisite eastern Ontario countryside where she enjoys the serenity of nature. When she isn’t busy being the married mother of two, certified trainer or counselor extraordinaire, she shadows worlds of paranormal passion & intrigue.

Kali strives to create emotional, compelling stories and characters you can’t help but love, hate and cheer for. Captivated by her love of dragons, gargoyles and everything paranormal, she pens these delightful creatures into epic tales of romance and adventure and often infuses her passions of martial arts, music and ironic twists even she didn’t foresee.

A good cup of tea with the crackling fire gets her creative juices flowing in the wee hours of the night, when the house is quiet and she can type away to her heart’s desire.

kali profile 2015.jpg

Do you have a nickname?
Several! 😀   Mom, Babe, Baby, but mostly KareBear ❤

What is one word best describes you?
One word? Just one? Hmmm, taps chin in deliberation It would depend on what facet of life we’re talking about… Parenting: protective; career: determined; problem-solving: innovative. I supposed “complex” would suffice? 😀

What makes you laugh out loud?
Most of the time, my kids. Their sense of humour astounds me and they come up with some real doozies! I love laughter, it’s so good for the soul. But I’m partial to particular movies that give me a fantastic ab workout! Eddie Murphy’s Delirious gets me every time, romantic comedies with fantastic one-liners and standup comedy, as long as they are funny, I will admit, the last movie that had me in stitches was Ted 2. Gut-busting laughter! Mark Wahlberg is not hard to look at either, lol.

What is your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
True to my author persona, I find it difficult to narrow down to just one. When it comes to sexy seduction or general swooning, the scents of Armani or Stetson really get me evil grin As for home/comfort: anything sweet and earthy. I’m a sucker for vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon, and baked apple scents. I love floral, citrus… let’s say I can’t choose just one. Again, I’m complex.

Favourite place to spend time in.
My picturesque rural property is my place to be: swinging on my hand-made wooden swing under our massive maple tree, sipping tea and listening to the blissful sounds of nature all around, and my children’s laughter. On cold nights, I love sitting next to my wood-burning stove, sipping wine and listening to the crackle of the fire while I type away on my latest creation. Most of all, I love spending time in the arms of my beloved or curled up on the couch cuddling with my beautiful babies. That is the ultimate bliss ❤

Is there a genre that you refuse to read?
Although I’m drawn to some more than others, I don’t begrudge any genre of literature. My only limitations to reading, with the exception of time, are: it has to be well-written, thoughtful and engaging. If the writing can whisk me away to another world and draw me in as my own experience, I’m completely sold on the work!

Writing! What started it?
This is a thought-provoking question I have been asked before, and I wish I could offer a succinct response. The truth is, I’ve been writing and story-telling since I was a small child. It is my most coveted form of expression and the most effective way I work through things mentally. Let’s just say, during stressful periods of life, I tend to write a lot more destruction and retribution-themed stories, and I find it the most compelling, cathartic tool one could ask for. In my teens, we lived in a townhouse. In my bedroom, there was a tiny door in my wall that led to a crawl space above my garage. That became my portal to magical escape. I created my own private hideaway there. I wrote poems on the rafters, hung my favourite posters and kept trinkets of value in the farthest corners. That is where I found the beauty of self-expression through the written word.

If you could choose another career what would it be?
Ironically, I already have! After 25+ years of working frontline in the social services sector and realizing I had lost my drive for the work, I decided to go back to school to pursue a career I was more passionate about. I’m currently in the final semester for public relations, where I can use my love and experience of graphic design, communications and event planning! If there is one thing I love, it’s to plan epic events that leave people swooning and wanting more. Stay tuned for KaLiCon!
Looking forward to that!

Audiobooks! What started them?
I love the premise of audio books. A genius extension for the lovers of books that may not always have time and silence to sit and read. Having the right voices narrate literature springs characters and their adventures to life in the mind of a reader. If done well, it is one of my favourite reading experiences. So why do I try to have my titles put into audio? Because my personal brand is all about bringing books to life, and what better way than with audio and film? If I could, I would make movies too! 😀 My hope and goal is to have each of my books in every possible format so no readers miss out because of the type of format they use.

Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
Each of the stories I write has distinct themes of urgent challenges, time-driven journeys, transformation, and healing. With every new tale I weave, I find myself digging deeper emotionally, and crafting more intense experiences with the goal of keeping the reader engaged and on the edge of their seats.

Who is your intended audience and why should they read your books?
My intended audience are lovers of books, fiction, and endless possibilities. When readers indulge in my stories, they are promised adventures filled with action, suspense, romance and epic tales of overcoming impossible obstacles while the heroes/heroines emerge better people for the experience.

What is next in your writing?
Oh my darling Eniko, I have two new releases coming out!

curse of the dragons eye teaser3.jpg

I’m in the final stages of completing a riveting new dragon story that is part of the epic box set: Stoking the Flames, due to release March 28, 2017. 13 amazing authors have collaborated to bring 13 sizzling tales of dragon romance to make your toes curl. My contribution is called: Curse of the Dragon’s Eye. It’s a tale of Egyptian dragons, deceit, magic and mayhem!

I am so looking forward to reading this anthology, as you know I looooove dragons 😀

Another release coming soon is my second addition to the Wiccan Haus series with Decadent Publishing. Mythic Iron is a tale of three dragons, motorcycles, mixed martial arts, deadly attacks, and healing. No cover to show yet.

Flames of Venom…
    When the president of Mythic Iron is brutally slain, the VP, and the Sergeant of Arms set out to protect the club’s legacy, and next target. Sai is a world-class MMA champion, and a half-breed dragon with a fiery temper. After the vicious murder of her mother, she fled the arms of her two mates and the MC, and made her way to the ring. A fighter with an edge, she doesn’t apologize, never holds back and doesn’t need saving. The unexpected arrival of her estranged mates coincides with the biggest fight she’s ever had; the one for her own life.

Dragons of iron…
    A leather-clad soldier of fortune with a patch, was all Levi could be anymore without her. His lost identity before the MC took an injured child in left a mystery for him, one no one can fill in the blanks for. Now, a purple dragon with a propensity for danger, he evolved into the ultimate weapon for their club. Can he ever reclaim their mate, or will she kill them first?

Drake was born into a legacy of crime. In the wake of their mate denying their bond, evolved a cold, merciless dragon that did whatever the MC required of him. In a desperate bid to safeguard her, their reunion is soon wrought with tragedy, leaving Sai critically injured. Devastated by his failure to protect her and the people she loved, he reaches out to an old comrade for help.

Welcome back to the Wiccan Haus. A place meant for healing, but with an ominous threat looming, will the arrival of the purple dragons mean the end of island peace?

Sai’s tattoo created by Kali

Here is a small unedited taste… you read it here first 😉

    “No…” She widened her eyes and shook her head. “I don’t want to hear it.” Her chin quivered and she backed away from them. “Babe, please, you have to listen—” Levi asserted.
    “I said NO!” she hissed.
    “Hortese, who’s scheduled for a bout tonight?” She spun around and jogged over to the banged up lockers past the boxing ring and grabbed a roll of tape. Levi moved to follow her and Drake gripped his shoulder. “Don’t.”
“There’s a few new people tonight. Didn’t recognize their names, but they haven’t arrived yet,” the manager replied.
“Yes we have,” a low voice boomed from the doorway. Drake twisted around to find six, gargantuan men in black pants and t-shirts saunter in. The epitome of bad news; all dressed in black with stone cold expressions, domineering stances and muscular physiques. Their very presence shot pangs of caution through his stomach.
“Brother,” he whispered as he studied each one from head to toe. His sergeant of arms mumbled back. “What do you want me to do, take em out?”
“Not yet, we don’t know why they’re here. See how she handles it. We’ve got her back if anything happens,” he ordered firmly. If only he believed his own words. The churning in his gut told him this was connected to the reason he came here. There was no way to know if these were the same guys that ram-sacked their clubhouse just last night, but he’d bet his patch they were.
“Who’s first?” She called out. That raspy, venomous tone was one he knew all too well. Drake glanced over to find her narrow her eyes and slowly slither the tip of her tongue across her upper lip, she was pissed, but now she was on guard too.
Sai pounded at the old CD player until the tune, Mortal Combat began. The volume blared throughout the gym, she turned back and glared at the six men. Her serpent sense of smell alone would have alerted her to something about the new arrivals he’d already suspected, the fact she cranked up her traditional kick-ass tune was the tell-all; shit was about to get real.

I already love Sai 😀 Looking forward to reading it, I know I enjoyed your first one sigh

I also have an audio version of my Wiccan Haus story Claiming Trinity in production as we speak!
