Grab a coffee and read on.

Do you have a nickname?
ROFL Thankfully, no! I have two author names (and a real life name). Anymore names, and I might truly become schizophrenic.
You are too funny Tarah!

What is one word best describes you?
Determined.

What makes you laugh out loud?
Life! Laughing is one of life’s greatest pleasures. I’m a clown at heart. Luckily, life is filled with many laughable moments, so I tend to get my laugh fix almost daily.

What is your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
That’s tough. I have several scents I love. Freshly baked bread, pure, real vanilla, lilacs, to name a few. I have no special memories associated with the scents. They simply make me feel good.

Favourite place to spend time in.
Cozied up in bed watching a good movie.

Is there a genre that you refuse to read?
Heh heh. No! I read everything.

Writing! What started it?
A friend once told me that I didn’t choose writing. Writing chose me. When the stories finally started keeping me awake at night, I gave in and wrote that first scene. It was rough, very rough, but that, as they say, was all she wrote. Heh heh. I know, bad pun.

If you could choose another career what would it be?
Secret agent. Since I am incapable of choosing another career, I would be forced to take a career I write about.

Audiobooks! Any plans to have any of your books in audio format?
Yes. I have a producer working on that now. I’ll keep everyone updated.
That is awesome news!

Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
The messages vary. I do believe in real love and I believe there are lots of men who aren’t afraid of love. Those types of men tend to show up as my heroes. A specific emotion? I hope my work conveys many different emotions.

Who is your intended audience and why should they read your books?
My intended audience is anyone who likes action packed love stories. From spies to courtesans, I write about men and women who aren’t afraid to live life.

What is next in your writing?
I’m currently working on The Highlander’s Courtesan, the second book in the MacLean Highlander novels. I’m also working on a paranormal Scottish medieval, Death Comes for a Knight. Look for that book this summer.
I am looking forward to reading them.

Thank  you so much Tarah for joining me in my chat room. I love your sense of humour.

Thank you all for coming by today. For those of you who have not read any of Tarah Scott’s books, I totally recommend them. I am sure you will find something you might enjoy in the various genres she writes.

To start you on your reading journey, Ms. Scott is giving away an ebook of “Highland Winds”, Volume 1 in The Scrolls of Cridhe which includes her novella, “Lord Grayson’s Bride”, along with 6 other books from fabulous authors.

She can’t allow his love for her to destroy him…

When Nicholas Spencer, Earl of Grayson, returns to claim the woman he loves, Lady Josephine Knightly isn’t willing to forgive him for abandoning her six years ago. But neither can she resist the man he’s become.

Two days after Josephine signs the marriage contract she discovers a nasty secret that will destroy her family. The only way to protect them—to protect the only man she’s ever loved—is to disappear…or die.

Nicholas won’t make the same mistake twice and let Josephine Knightly go. She loves him. He felt it in their one kiss before he left, and in the single kiss she allowed since his return. But she’s doing everything in her power to sabotage the marriage even before it’s begun. Nicholas doesn’t care. If Hell is where he must live to have her, then she must stand by his side in the fire.

Isn’t that an awesome treat? Nicholas is one of my book boyfriends and he came for a chat last November *sigh*

Get comfortable and read on, see what she has to say.
Do you have a nickname?
No, at least not since high school.
What is one word best describes you?
Cheeky!

What makes you laugh out loud?
My husband – he has a wicked sense of humor. We laugh all the time.

What is your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
Baking bread. It reminds me of my mother.

Favourite place to spend time in.
Anywhere my husband happens to be. Or with family. After that, it is at my desk that sits in front of a window in our living room. That is temporary, however. Just until my new office and the rest of the room addition is complete.

Is there a genre that you refuse to read?
Not really.

Writing! What started it?
I’ve been writing since childhood. I was a painfully shy and introverted little girl. In my imagination, I could create worlds where I wasn’t quite so shy and had lots of friends. It morphed from there. I also come from a long line of creative individuals – artists, musicians, poets, teachers, scientists, inventors, and even a few ne’er-do-wells.

If you could choose another career what would it be?
Supreme Omnipotent Despotic Ruler of the Universe. I say that tongue in cheek. I can’t imagine ever doing anything but writing.
You are too funny Suzan!

Audiobooks! What started them?
My author friend, Tanya Anne Crosby said “You HAVE to do audio books.” So I did!
I am so glad you listened to Tanya. I loved your books when I read them, but listening to Brad Wills’ voice telling your stories brings them waaay up there.

Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
Yes. There is always a happily ever after – they are real. Nice guys do finish first and bad guys will always get their’s in the end. Honor is important.

Who is your intended audience and why should they read your books?
I think 18+, but only because there are ‘love scenes’. I don’t think my love scenes are graphic – usually I try to make them a bit funny – only a few people have ever said they thought them too explicit.

What is next in your writing?
I’m currently working on Caelen’s Wife the trilogy. Book 2 – A Whisper of Fate – is finished and will release on Friday, February 27, 2015. Here is the cover.

A Whisper of Fate-cover

I just love the couple on these gorgeous covers.

Then it is on to book 3 – A Breath of Promise. After that, it will be the second installment in my Moirra’s Heart series, then the collection I’m doing with Kathryn Le Veque, Christi Caldwell, Cynthia Wright, Eva Devon, and Eliza Knight. Yes, it is going to be a very busy year!

The news will make your fans really happy.

Thank you Suzan for spending time with me.

Hope you enjoyed the chat and you will give a try to Suzan Tisdale‘s books. And here is a chance to start on reading one. Ms. Tisdale is giving away 1 signed paperback copy of Caelen’s Wife – A Murmur of Providence. Giveaway open internationally.

Caelen's Wife-cover

This is book one of a three part novel. Book 2 will be released on February 27, 2015 and Book 3 on March 27, 2015.

Rumor has it the water on Clan McPherson lands is magical….

Clan McPherson has known peace amongst their neighboring clans for more than one hundred years. That peace is threatened when Fiona McPherson is made chief after the death of her husband.
Known more for her fighting skills than her beauty, Fiona refuses the multiple proposals of marriage that begin to seemingly arise from nowhere. She may be the chief of her clan, but she’s still a woman. It isn’t Fiona they want, but her land and she’s willing to fight to the death to keep it.

Rumor has it Caelen McDunnah has lost his mind…

Called McDunnah, the chief of Clan McDunnah, has no desire to remarry. He’s perfectly content to still mourn the loss of his first wife and babe, even if it has been sixteen years. Until he meets the beautiful and feisty Fiona McPherson.
Known to start a fight out of sheer boredom or madness — no one is ever truly sure which — Caelen suddenly finds himself in the middle of battles he has no desire to fight, but fight them he will if it means he can have Fiona McPherson as his own.

There is always a wee bit of truth in every rumor.

My thoughts on this book: “I loved this first instalment of Clan McDunnah series and I can’t wait for the second one. I am glad I have to wait only a few more weeks. What a quandary to be in! Fiona is chief of her small clan she swore to keep safe and intact, but she didn’t expect Caelen McDunnah to enter her life and turn it upside down. The way they were brought together is filled with doubts, with outside interference. I have a feeling they will both have a hard time ahead of them, but knowing Ms. Tisdale’s style, she will give them a HEA worthy of them.”  5 stars

My Chat with Ilona

Hello and welcome!

Today I have the first ever heroine in my chat room and I am very excited. Here is what she has to say.

портрет девушки Лены

What is your full name?
My name is Dr. Ilona O. I know it sounds strange having a last name that is only one letter, but I like it, because it’s different and easy to remember.

Do you have a nickname?
My sister still calls me Ilili sometimes, but I forbid anyone else calling me by my nickname.

What is one word best describes you?
I would say dauntless, because after I overcame my initial fear, I face danger and don’t let anyone control or intimidate me.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I live in an alternate world that my author created, and let me tell you, I love it there. I’m an ER doctor, but she gave me the ability to heal with my hands and let me acquire other abilities that will blow your mind. The other characters in the story have magical powers as well. For example, Zoltan can travel through time and visit the ancestors in the past. Because of Morana, the evil one, and the strict laws of my people, we spent time in the four hundreds, among other time lines and places. Bela, well I’m not going to tell you that, because he only finds out what he’s capable of in book two. Rua can make can change you in your dream, and Elza can see into the future.

Describe what you are wearing now to our readers.
Right now I look like a parrot. Zoltan made me wear a bright green skirt with lots of flowers on it, a white blouse with hand-sewn red flowers, a yellow shawl and pink ribbons to pull up my hair. We are about to visit a gypsy caravan in King Matyas’ time, so we have to blend in. I’m used to soft pastel colors, but when I looked in the mirror I was surprised. The flowing, vibrant colors made me look more alive and after I noticed Zoltan’s admiring glances, now I don’t mind wearing the colorful outfit.

Do you think the author portrayed you accurately?
Yes, I think she did. She revealed my deepest secrets, feelings and thoughts, which are a little embarrassing, but it made me almost like a real person that readers can relate too. I also love that she didn’t make me to be a stunningly beautiful and super strong heroine. I’m pretty and a bit exotic, I’m vulnerable and uncertain at times, but the author made me grow from a naïve girl into a strong woman who can overcome her fears and take her destiny into her own hands. I love the fact that she didn’t give me an easy task to discover my ancestors’ secrets. She gave me clues and made it very hard at times, but while I accepted the healing ability and acquired magical powers, she let me develop my personality through a lot of soul searching. I’m grateful that she didn’t make me a “readymade” character; I’ve changed a lot as the story in her imaginary world progressed.

What makes you laugh?
There are parts in the story that makes me laugh, especially Patrick and Bela are arguing:

“Can I come?” Patrick asked excitedly. “I can help.”
Bela growled, “Help with what? You gonna throw paragraphs from your law books at people?”
“Okay, big smart invisible guy. How you gonna steal all the equipment from the hospital? Did you think of that, huh? They have cameras everywhere. I don’t think they’ll just let you carry boxes out—even if they just see them floating in the air—the guards and staff will rush over and stop you.”
“Alright, what would you do then?” Bela asked angrily.
“I can hack into the hospital’s computer, scramble the security system and you can walk out of there undetected, you big baboon.”
“Okay, that works. You are useful, after all.” Bela laughed and punched Patrick on the shoulder.
Patrick winced, “Ouch,” and laughed along with Bela.
Or when Zoltan says something unexpected in this part of my diary:
I saw the evil face, and I threw all the frustration, anger and hopelessness at it with such force that it almost instantly disappeared. I didn’t waste time filling the empty spot in her brain. I emerged and unfroze time, before I released her head.
She stared at me with a petrified look on her face, “What did you do to me?”
I let her go, stepped back and said, “Now you can tell me everything you know.”
Zoltan took a ragged breath behind me, “I will never get used to this. You froze me, again, didn’t you?”
“Yes, sorry, I had to.”
“When I’m with you, I never know when I turn into an icicle.”
I love this part from my diary too. Gypsy, my St. Bernard got a special place in the books:
From the corner of my eye I saw Zoltan stepping through the door, and Bela indeed pushed the tray out of his hands as I suspected his intentions.
“Bela, you’re in big trouble, and you too Gypsy,” I yelled, hiding the fact that I wanted to laugh. Bela wore a guilty smirk on his face; Gypsy stopped peeing on the chair instantly. He looked just as guilty as Bela.
“How did you do it?” I heard Rua’s voice, and when I turned back to look at him, tears were rolling down his face, “Eniko was so sad about not being able to.”
“I don’t know, Rua, honestly. I don’t care how I do it. I’m just happy that I could.”
Elza stepped out the door and froze as Rua walked toward her, tall and erect. He swung both arms, and there was a young bounce to his steps. He wasn’t the stooping and limping old man any longer. My heart rejoiced. Elza couldn’t take her eyes off him. Rua ran up the steps, and embraced her in his arms. He then turned and ran. We all stared after him as he sprinted and skipped toward his cottage.
Elza looked at me with sparks in her eyes, “Ilona, you did it! I don’t know how, but you did it. Thank you.”
“I should have thought of it sooner, but I’ve been pretty busy the past few weeks. I know why mom couldn’t heal him. She didn’t have the help I have.”
Bela had a puzzled look on his face, “When did you? How did you?” he mumbled.
Zoltan turned to him, “She can freeze time and…”
“I know that moron!” he cut Zoltan off angrily and turned to me, “I just witnessed a miraculous event and I didn’t see it. Don’t freeze me next time, okay?”
“That’s a deal,” I promised and I felt very uneasy about the bickering between them.
Rua returned, and he dropped on his knees before Elza, holding a red tulip in his hand. “I can ask you now,” he whispered. “I love you Elza, always have. Will you accept my love?”
Elza sighed, blinking the threatening tears away. “I thought you’d never ask.” She smiled and took the flower from his hand, lifting it to her lips. Rua stood up and embraced her.

What is your favorite dessert?
As much as the author fed me throughout the close to 700 pages, I should look like a toothpick by now, but my favorite dessert would be anything with chocolate, just because the author is a known chocoholic. I’m glad that the author didn’t feed me on every page though. She read a book once and the author documented every breakfast, lunch and dinner the character had, and in the two hundred page book, she took 72 showers. The readers know that even fictional characters eat and pee, but they don’t need to read about every minute detail of their lives.

What is your favourite drink?
Hm… she never mixed a drink for me either besides coffee that she made me spill on the keyboard. I will make her give me some margaritas with tequila in the next book.
Or maybe a strawberry daiquiri, I love those.

What is your greatest fear?
My greatest fear is that I would lose my sister and not be able to save the future of my people.

What is your favourite colour?
I love pastel colors, nothing fancy or bright.

What do you wear when you go to sleep?
Silk pajamas and my bed sheets are lilac color silk too.

What is the perfect romantic date?
I will never forget that romantic day and night… Read a little about it from Zoltan’s diary:

We arrived at the lake house, parked in the driveway and unloaded the grocery bags I’d picked up before I went to Ilona’s house. The weather was just perfect. I suggested a little fishing. “We might have some catfish for dinner if we get lucky.”
She smiled, “I love barbecued catfish.”
“Let’s go then. I’ll get the fishing poles out of the garage.”
I also opened a can of corn for bait, and we descended the wooden steps to the deck. Ilona helped me get some folding chairs and a bucket for the potential catch. She was excited and happy, and I wished I could make everything perfect for her. The float on her fishing rig began bobbing under the water, and she pulled the line and wheeled in a pretty good-sized fish.
She clapped, but then the corner of her mouth drooped. “I can’t take the hook out. Would you help me? And don’t you dare laugh!”
“Of course I won’t laugh.” I dropped the nice-sized fish into the bucket, then another and couple of minutes later, even more. “You’re a fish magnet. They don’t even taste my bait,” I mused.
“Yup, fish are drawn to me. I always knew that,” she teased.
“Oh? Then I’m the biggest fish you have ever seen.”
“Are you drawn to me?”
“Big time, you have no idea,” I assured her.
She offered her lips for a kiss, suddenly looking serious. It was a little more sensuous and a little longer kiss than she had allowed before. We enjoyed our embrace, but the lure broke the mood with the buzzing noise. There was another fish on her hook. Later the fish slowed, and we sat there, lazily enjoying the sun and the delicious breeze. We talked, listened to the birds and caught a couple of more fish towards dinnertime. She sat in her chair by my side. Her sun-kissed skin was glowing.
“You’re my life,” I whispered, my throat tight.
My skin was flushed, and my heart drummed loudly in my chest. We stood up slowly, and she put her arms around my neck, caressing the nape of my neck. I held her close to me, and at that moment, nothing else existed, only us. We kissed, passionately and long. She accepted my embrace, but there was still some resistance, carefully masked, but holding her back. I gently eased up. I knew the time would come when she would be ready, and wouldn’t hold back… I will be patient and I won’t rush her. “I think we have enough fish for dinner,” I announced in a lighter tone.
Her eyes seemed a little misty, apologetic. “Thank you for not rushing me,” she whispered.

Is your book part of a series? What does the future hold for the readers of the series?
The Ancestor’s Secrets series contains two books, for now. The author still hasn’t decided if she would continue the series with a third book. I would love to stay and enjoy my relationship with my chosen one and to make sure my people survive and flourish.

I hope there will be more. You know, there is a way to convince her. Wake her up at night, whisper in her ear when she is doing something that takes concentration 😀

Thank you so much Ilona for spending time with me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you for joining me today, I hope you enjoyed the chat.
Ilona hails from the The Ancestor’s Secrets series by one of my fave authors, Erika M. Szabo.
Protected By The Falcon
protectedbythefalconebook
Ilona is a doctor and is ruled by logic, yet when she starts to develop unusual powers, her beliefs change and she’s thrown into a world of mysteries, traditions and secrets. Nursery rhymes taught by her mother lead her to discover her clan’s past, which still exist with its fiercely enforced laws. A dangerous dark man stalks Ilona who is unexpectedly rescued by a handsome stranger, Zoltan. As their relationship grows, her feelings for best friend, Bela, starts to fade. When her life and the future of her people become threatened, she must gather all her courage and use her inherited powers to fight back. Infused with Hungarian legend, the twisting plot keeps the reader turning the pages of this extraordinary fantasy story. The Ancestors’ Secret series is an epic fantasy, heroic romance series with magical powers, ancient legends, love triangle and time travel that is a great read for fantasy lovers and also suitable for young adults.
Chosen By The Sword
ChosenbytheSword-cover
In book one, Protected By The Falcon, Ilona is thrust from her easy and steady life and forced to face the unknown, which prompts her to discover the ancient tribal secrets. The rules of her ancient Hun clan that still exist with strict laws suffocate her, but she is resourceful and daring. She discovers secrets and obtains unimaginable powers to protect her sister, who bears the next leader of the clan. If she does not succeed, the fate of her people is at stake. She must sort through her own feelings about the men in her life. Will she choose Bela, her best friend, or the handsome and noble Zoltan? From the time when her people were nomads, the castles of the 14th century to the present, travel through time with Ilona as she struggles to overcome the obstacles placed in her path by ruthless individuals who want to inflict their rule on the Hun clan.
Being a Hungarian myself, I was always looking to read more about my ancestors, fiction and nonfiction literature. These books brought back many memories of the stories and legends I read and heard. Written in a diary-kind format, weaving fact and fiction together, the different characters tell a beautiful story.
Here is a little trivia on the symbols used in the book.
My Chat with Em Petrova
Hello and welcome!
Today I have Em Petrova for a chat. She writes some thigh-clenching hot erotic romance.
Em-banner
I discovered her books last year and started with “Pushing Buttons”, book 1 in The Boot Knockers Ranch series which has 3 books so far and the 4th one is coming June 9, 2015. I haven’t had my fill yet reading thru the backlist, there are so many yummies: Country Fever series, The Dalton Boys series, Texas Threesome series, Club Ties series, The Quick and The Hot series, The Hollis Boys series, The French Kiss series, Pirate Lust series, Firehouse 5 series, Rough Boys and a few single titles. As you see, lots to choose from.
Check out My Chat with Hugh and Riggs, the two yummy cowboys from the book, I did last year.
Pushing Buttons-cover
This my review on Amazon for “Pushing Buttons”: “It made me read without stopping, I could not put it down. A ranch, horses and cowboys doing therapy! My kinda place, well… at least in a book. Loved adventurous Sybill and the two yummy cowboys who helped her get over her no-O problem and gaining their HEA. Lots of sex, MF, MM and MFM, so if you are not into that, this book is not for you. But if you enjoy this genre, I totally recommend it and make sure you have a fan and lots of ice within reach, it is HAWT. A great start to a series, I am looking forward to reading the next one.” 5 stars
emoffice2
Grab your coffee, tea or a glass of wine and read on 😉
Do you have a nickname?
This is it: Em! I’m also Hon, Mom, and I had a period when I was 4 years old where I wanted everyone to call me Fifi like a can-can dancer. My mother still calls me that.
What is one word that best describes you?
Determined
What makes you laugh out loud?
My kids when they get going on Yo Momma jokes.
What is your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
Fresh-cut grass. Reminds me of home.
Favourite place to spend time in.
A special, cozy corner of the sofa. Either with a kid cuddled up to me watching a movie or with my laptop and my Breaking Bad habit.
Is there a genre that you refuse to read?
I’m not a huge fan of mystery. But that doesn’t mean I avoid it.
Writing! What started it?
I became addicted in 7th grade when I wrote chapters of a Sweet Valley High spinoff series featuring 2 blond twin boys in my class (Jake and Charlie, if you’re out there, I still fantasize about you). My friends were gagging for the next instalments and I realized the power of the pen.
I, for one, am glad you did!
If you could choose another career what would it be?
Nothing. This is it. Oh, I guess professional buckle bunny, following rodeo stars around the circuit would be fun too.
Audiobooks! Any plans to have any of your books in audio format?
I don’t have plans for it, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen. And some of my publishers may turn that direction.
Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
I want everyone to take emotion away from their experience with my books. I like readers to feel the character and live their experience.
Who is your intended audience and why should they read your books?
All readers who love a good, dirty read with some twists of humor. They should read for escape…and also pleasure. she waggles brows
What is next in your writing?
I’m a crazy busy writer! I have Dalton Boys finishing out the year with 3 more brothers. I hope to end 2015 with a Christmas novella featuring all the brothers.
You’ll see some brand new biker books. The first is a novella centered around the Hell’s Sons motorcycle club’s resident tattoo artist, Paxton. Mmm, yes, you’ll need to check him out—from head to toe.
I will, I will!
Of course there are more Boot Knockers on the way! Ty, Stowe, and Booker’s stories are hot, dirty and involve a lot of rope.
I also have some fun things up my sleeve. So keep checking in to stay updated.
And there you have it. I hope you will give Ms. Petrova’s books a try, they are sinfully delicious with a side of smexy mmmmm
SomethinDirty-cover
And here is a chance to start on reading one. Ms Petrova is giving away 1 signed paperback copy of “Somethin’ Dirty” (for US entries only).
She’s headed for the big time…unless her heart gets stopped at the pass.
Country Fever, Book 4
Forty-two-year-old single father Griffin Turner couldn’t have made it through colic and calving season without his mother’s babysitting services. But just when he thinks he’s got the hardest part of the infant learning curve licked, he gets devastating news. Mom is sick. And Griffin is forced to hire a nanny.
With nothing but twenty dollars in her pocket and her voice, Nola Brady wants to leave small-town Wyoming to pursue her dreams in Nashville. She answers Griffin’s ad to keep body and soul together until her big chance arrives. Love isn’t even on her radar…until she unexpectedly falls for the rough-and-playful cowboy.
Between the sheets, they’re poetry. Outside the bedroom, he inspires her to be more woman than she ever dreamed possible, which scares her enough to put on the brakes…and hit the road.
But if she thought he’d just let her leave quietly, she was wrong. Because hell hath no fury like a cowboy in love…especially one with a baby on his hip. And a ring with her name on it.
Warning: This cowboy daddy is determined to make a May/September romance work—even if he has to lay down his palm or his mouth on a round ass cheek to do it.
Wait! Wait! I can hear the groans from international readers. I feel your pain, I do. But… if from outside US, the winner can choose one ebook from the backlist! YAY
QUESTION!
3D Character and Question Mark
My Chat with J. D. Hart
Hello and welcome!
Today I have J. D. Hart, The Pirate Storyteller with me. He is “the voice” behind many books I love and has the ability to turn something great into awesome bringing something special to each book, bringing them to life with passion. The versatility of his voice amazes me every time, accents are perfectly rendered, the mood of the characters come across clearly, the various characters of different gender and nationalities are well defined. I love it when he whispers in my ear 😀
JD-PirateShip
Thanks for coming to my little corner of the blogging world, JD!
Do you have a nickname?
My full name is John David Hart. Years ago when I was an MCA recording artist I traveled with a band that had three Johns. It was a bit confusing when someone called out the name John. I decided that to simplify matters, I would just use my initials J.D. I am also lovingly referred to as the Pirate Storyteller.
What is one word best describes you?
Passionate
Perfect description I think.
What makes you laugh out loud?
A karaoke singer who doesn’t know he can’t sing on pitch.
What is your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
Burning wood. It reminds me of the wonderful crackling fires my Grandfather used to build in the living room when I was a kid. We would sit around the fireplace and play our guitars and sing.
Mine too! I loved sitting by the wood stove in my grandparents kitchen.
Favourite place to spend time in.
Riding my bicycle through the countryside, standing on the porch of a chalet in the mountains taking in the beauty of fall colors. Strolling along the beaches of St. Maarten and St. Thomas. Sometimes just being alone listening to the sound of silence, music or a good audio book.
Is there a genre that you refuse to read?
I really don’t care for Punk or Science Fiction.
JD-microphone
Audiobooks! What started them?
I began my career in radio at the age of 18. I would voice commercials and narrated a show entitled, “The Unexplained”. I fell in love with being in front of a microphone and creating art with my voice. Later, I became a recording artist and used my voice to sing.
I love your songs, my fave is “Meet Each Other Now”
and “Walk With Me”
Disenchanted with the lack of autonomy in the music industry, I auditioned and landed the role of a national TV spokesperson for Chevrolet. That afforded me the opportunity to not only be the on-camera talent but voice many of their radio and TV commercials as well.
I began getting some roles in films and there I had the opportunity to really work on my skills as an actor. Finally, one morning I woke up and proclaimed that all of that had been foreplay to what I really wanted to do, narrate audio books. I sent my demo reel to an agent and was handed three books to narrate that same day. My previous years as a VO talent, singer and then actor were, in my mind the perfect skill set for launching a career as an audio book storyteller.
Is there a genre that you would not narrate?
I have not come across a genre as of yet that I would refuse to narrate. I would probably least prefer political.
If you could choose another career what would it be?
There is nothing that I would rather do than breath life into an author’s story. But if I had to choose another career, it would be …. would be … it would be … hmmmmm I suppose a film director.
Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
Yes, indeed! It is my job specifically to convey the author’s message and add the element of emotion where and when it is needed. It is my job to bring the characters to life and convey what is going on in their heads, according to my interpretation of what the author is trying to convey. That’s the beauty of it. I get to layer in another element, more depth to the author’s story.
Who is your intended audience and why should they listen to your audiobooks?
Having the good fortune of being selected by award winning New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sharon Hamilton to collaborate with her as her storyteller, I feel that my intended audience is for romance and paranormal romance. Sharon being the most gifted and talented writer of romance coupled with my being a hopeful romantic and the pirate storyteller is a wicked savvy combination. It is our intention and our desire to give our listeners something not only for the ear but for the heart as well. A listening experience that will draw them into the story and feel as if they are living and breathing it.
What is next in your narrating work?
“SEAL My Home” by Sharon Hamilton. Coming soon!
I can’t wait to hear it!
Thank you for sharing your voice with us and making books come to life!
My Chat with Patrick
Hello and welcome!
Today I have a former political journalist at one of Toronto’s most respected papers, but now he’s forced to write a seedy expose.
Patrick
After staring at him for a few, I mentally slap myself and pick up my tongue off the floor… sigh … I got to have a talk with Rosanna… you could have warned me, girl!!! He is so delish… sigh…
Welcome, welcome!
What is your full name?
Getting all formal, are we, Eniko? he winks and smiles Officially, my name is Patrick Michael Lincoln, although I have been given some rather unsavory monikers by my friends, none of which can be mentioned here. If I’m going to make you blush, I’d rather do it for the right reasons.
I am looking for my fan, it is too hot in here…
Do you have a nickname?
Well, my Little Brother Marcus calls me Mr. L., which makes me feel about eighty years old. However, I encourage it to keep the kid in line. he laughs
What is one word that best describes you?
Suitporn. he grins Or is that really two words?
Describe what you are wearing now to our readers.
It seems I came prepared for the previous question. he caresses lapel I am wearing my favorite grey pinstripe suit with a purple Armani tie. It was the suit I wore when I accompanied Winn to our first wedding together. She liked it, although she never would have admitted it that day. Of course, I spent the entire night gawking at her, so I guess we’re even.
Do you think the author portrayed you accurately?
Hmm. he frowns I will admit Ms. Rosanna Leo did a pretty good job, although there was a section at the start where she made it seem like I was checking out a woman’s panty lines. he says rolling his eyes Of course, I was, but it didn’t need to go in the book.
What makes you laugh out loud?
Bad journalism. Politicians who think they can get away with murder. Oh, and there’s this thing that Winn does in bed when she tickles my…. he claps mouth shut I think I’ve said enough.
No, no! Please continue. he shakes his head and I continue
What is your favourite dessert?
I would go to great lengths and embarrass myself in public for a bowl of crème brulee. And if I could get Winn to feed it to me, I’d do just about anything.
What is your favourite drink?
Honestly, I’m not a big drinker although I have been known to explore a good whiskey for medicinal purposes. Otherwise, if you hand me a Gatorade, I’m as happy as a kid in a candy store.
What is your greatest fear?
Oh my God. Clowns. Especially clowns named Wally. You’ll meet that character in the book, too. Hopefully it won’t scar you the way it did me. I still have nightmares…
What is your favourite colour?
I can tell you what my least favorite color is.  Coral. Ask Winn. She had to wear a tragic coral gown to one of her weddings. It was awful. Big and fluffy and … well, coral. It just wasn’t right.
What do you wear when you go to sleep?
tilts head and narrows gaze Now, Eniko. Do you really want me to answer that truthfully? I nod eagerly Let’s just say I like to get back to basics.
What is the perfect romantic date?
I’ve been on some dates that many would consider romantic, but I’m happiest when Winn and I are at home, relaxing, with nowhere to go. We’re both pretty busy so I appreciate the quiet times. And I’m man enough I can say I like a nice cuddle. Plus it increases the chances we’ll get naked.
How ticklish are you? Where are you ticklish?
Next question! he bursts into giggles when I tickle his gut
What’s your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
Eniko, I’m a man. I have very basic needs. And they are all fulfilled with bacon. If I could find Winn a bacon-scented perfume, I’d live out my days in ecstasy.
When you look at a woman, what catches your interest?
I’m interested in a woman’s soul, in what makes her tick. I want to learn her hopes and dreams. stares ahead and lets out a laugh Okay, boobs.
Do you have somebody in your life now?
Yes. I believe I’ve already mentioned my Winn a couple of times. She’s awesome, spunky and fun and talented. Oh, and she makes an incredible spaghetti sauce. Seriously. It’s so tasty I’ve considered rubbing it all over her…um, spaghetti. Right. Spaghetti.
What is one word that best describes her?
Brave. But you’ve read “The Stand-In” and you know why.
Yes, I did and I totally agree with you.
Is your book part of a series? What does the future hold for the readers of the series?
I do hope Ms. Leo returns to our world and writes another installment. I know Winn’s sister Enid certainly has enough men in her life that Ms. Leo could write a trilogy about her alone! Personally, I’d like to see Grandpa Ernie get a book. That dude is super cool. he smiles
I sure hope Ms. Leo does, I would love to read Enid’s story, she is hilarious.
Thank you for spending time and answering my questions. Hugs to Winn!
Hope you enjoyed the chat with yummy Patrick. I sure did *sigh*
HRthestandin
He hails from The Stand-In by Rosanna Leo and released TODAY. I really, really enjoyed this book, as I do all Ms. Leo’s books.
Out of work and desperate, Winn Busby accepts the only job available to her … professional liar! Simple enough, until she meets a former political journalist determined to sniff out the truth about what she’s up to. Charming, witty, and filled with sizzling passion, The Stand In, another great romantic comedy from author Rosanna Leo.
Failed actress Winn Busby is at the end of her rope. With no money and no prospects, she accepts the one job she never thought she’d see on her résumé. Professional bridesmaid. It should be easy. If only the idea of weddings and vows didn’t give Winn a case of the hives. Her role becomes more challenging when she’s told a reporter will shadow her work for a men’s magazine article.
Working for Player Magazine is Patrick Lincoln’s worst nightmare. A former political journalist, he used to write thoughtful columns for one of Toronto’s most respected papers. That is, until he was blackballed for allegedly sleeping with the boss’s wife. Overnight, Patrick becomes the city’s most reviled bad boy. And now he’s forced to write a seedy expose on, of all things, a bridesmaid.
Patrick begrudgingly accompanies Winn to a series of strange weddings. As they are forced to work together, he learns there is more to the stand-in bridesmaid than puffy dresses and pretty speeches. She, in turn, begins to question whether or not Patrick actually deserves the derision of his peers. As much as they fight their attraction, it begins to threaten their work and their sanity.
For so long, Winn has felt second-best. A stand-in. She finally meets a man who believes in her value. But can she let go of the past and accept him?
My Chat with Mitchel… and Synric
Hello and welcome!
Today I waiting for somebody you heard about, but who very few of you has met yet. I am so excited, I have butterflies in my tummy and I can’t sit still.
I hear rapping at my door and know my guests have arrived.  I admit freely I am very nervous about this interview, I mean, seriously, how many people can honestly say they have interviewed an actual alien?  I wipe my sweaty hand off on the side of my slacks and open the door.
My mind has been a tangle of questions about the Tantalarians and I am curious to see what they really look like.  Did M.A. exaggerate the size of their wings?  What will they be wearing? I admit freely to being extremely curious about their ceremonial outfits.  I close my eyes as the door swings open, I am afraid to look, but open them back up anyway. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I suppress a squeal of delight, and they smile as they bow in greeting and spread their wings.  Angels with black wings, and they are glorious.  If this is an example of what heaven has in store for me if I am good, I just might start going to church, and YES, YES, YES… they are wearing their ceremonial outfits… Halleluiah.
I am Mitchel! the first Tantalarian speaks into my mind.
I am Synric! the second one follows.
I can’t resist the temptation to check out their uniforms.  Did M.A. describe them right?  I sigh as I note that she most definitely did, much less and there would be nothing left for the imagination.  Are those real pearls decorating the edges of the skort?  Black pearls?  I mentally slap my hands to prevent them from straying to the jewels to touch them.  Yes, I have a pearl fetish!  I must have thought about the idea for too long and too loudly, because Synric, bows again and offers to allow me to check them out, if I dare.  Mitchel just stands there and grins with his eyes twinkling merrily.
I suddenly remember my manners and invite them in, and I begin to babble. I have never done that before, but give me credit, these are Aliens. And what aliens they are. Drool.
Welcome to my chat room.  I hope you aren’t too crowded, would you like refreshments?  Me? Anything?  I cringe as I realize what I have just said, oh well, they would have read that from my mind anyway.
We are fine. Mitchel replies as he bends from the waist to fit through the doorway.
The room suddenly seems very small, and those wings look so soft, I wonder if they feel as downy as they look.  Synric grins as he carefully unfurls a wing to wrap it around me.  Oh yes!  A girl could get used to this.  I feel so very warm and comfortable.  Protected.  Does Mitchel’s feel the same way?
Mitchel grins and answers, You may take my word for it that they do, but they are reserved for Karia, and her only.
Synric is more open to the idea, I have hopes, but am willing to share until I get signals that my advances are welcome.
The man is a flirt.  I can live with that.  It isn’t serious, after all.  Synric wraps an arm around my shoulders and tucks me against his chest and I suddenly feel unsure of all the attention he is offering. Feeling warm, secure and impressed with his perfect physique no longer counts.  I have to question his intentions; there are limits to my friendliness.
Just so you know, I already have a husband.
I know that.  I merely wanted to give you some idea of how our females feel when they are held in our embrace.  Synric teased.
Should I tell others about this, I wonder, or keep this to myself?  Decisions… decisions.
I hear a strange noise and both Mitchel and Synric suddenly prepare to leave.  Mitchel heads for the door first.  He tells me their time has come and they need to leave now.  I am stunned; I didn’t ask most of my questions.  He smiles and bows as he sends me a mental picture of Karia.  She is gorgeous.
10962078_10202219054758087_451283736_n
My Karia waits for me, I will not keep her in suspense.  She is as curious about you as you are of her.  Mitchel replies.
Synric releases me from the confines of his arm and wing, and the temperature seems to drop 20 degrees, I need a coat.  He grins mischievously and sends me an offer.
I could send one of the Guardians in training to tend to your heat problem.  I hear you have an affinity for Phoenixes.  The Guardian would be more than happy to help teach you how to connect with the bird and together you could make it purr.
Does he mean what I think he does?  My eyes widen, but he doesn’t answer my question.  I guess I will never know, though he does send me a wink before disappearing through the doorway.  When I go to check where they went, I can’t see any signs of either man.  It is like they were never here.  Where did they go?  How did they disappear so quickly?  I give a sigh of disappointment.  I have so many questions I wanted answers to, and now I fear I will never know the answers.
Another voice enters my mind, We may come again.
Yes, do that! I replied gleefully.
I reenter my chat room, close the door and give a sigh of bliss as I remember my guests.  Oh, but those wings are glorious.
Synric
My Chat with Valerie Gilbert
Hello and welcome to another one of my Chats with my fave authors.
Today my guest is a wonderful lady whom I met not long ago and we hit it off right from the start.
colorful-bubbles-playbook-wallpaper
Bubbly, fun, positive… I love listening to her voice reading what she writes, she narrates her own books too! In her books she tells her experiences in real life, meeting people, dealing with friends, doctors and opinions about every day life. She makes me laugh out loud, makes me think, with her awesome, variable voice pulling me into her narrations, her accents, gender variations are really good.
Please welcome Valerie Gilbert!
Her books to date are:
RavingViolet-cover
5 stars My review on RAVING VIOLET audiobook: “The first thing that drew me to this is the narrator’s voice! I usually stay away from female narrators, but Ms. Gilbert’s voice spoke to me. So much passion, very well spoken, articulate. I started listening out of curiosity, nothing like I listened to before, except Erma Bombeck yeons ago. The stories told by the author from her real life experiences are captivating. Some made me think, some made me laugh out loud and some made me shake my head and what they have in common is that most of us can relate to these. The accents and temperament of the different people she introduces are so wonderfully executed. I loved it all.”
Memories-cover
5 stars My review on MEMORIES, DREAMS & DEFLECTIONS audiobook: “Just as the first book, this one too is very entertaining. I love Ms. Gilbert’s voice, such a pleasure to listen to her while talking about her real life experiences. She is hilariously irreverent, has opinions with which I agree on most things. This book made me laugh, think, nod and shake my head, but most of all I find it uplifting. I totally recommend it, as I do the first one, ‘RAVING VIOLET’. I am looking forward to Swami Soup.”
SwamiSoup-cover
Almost finished recently released SWAMI SOUP audiobook, my review will be posted in the next few days, but I can tell you now, it will get 5 stars.
Now onto the chat!
Welcome, Valerie!
Do you have a nickname?
I don’t!  I prefer Valerie to Val.  I allow certain people to call me Val, but while I don’t stand on ceremony, I find it presumptuous when I tell someone my name is Valerie and they respond by shortening it.
What is one word that best describes you?
Irreverent!  I like to break the rules.  I like to color outside of the lines (except in my beloved, myriad coloring books) I like to challenge people to THINK.  And you only do that by breaking the norms yourself. Being a sheep lands you in herds.
What makes you laugh out loud?
Hmm…a good one.  I rarely laugh out loud, but my friend Bill is quite good at it, because he’s not afraid to make fun of himself. There’s nothing better than a good laugh, and I’ll end up in paroxysms, choking, gagging, wheezing and weeping on the floor for I become weak in the knees when the fit hits.  There’s nothing better than “losing it”.  What’s “it”?  Control, I suppose.  Order.  It’s good to be disorderly so you can see the world in a new way.
What is your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
Coffee, which reminds me of chocolate which reminds me of food which reminds me of wine which reminds me to smile.
Favourite place to spend time in.
Hate to be a slug, but I love my bed.  Even when I was a kid, settling into my sleeping bag on my bunk bed at camp was my favorite activity after a long, exhausting day.  My camp was nicknamed “The Musical Army”. They ran a tight, tight ship complete with reveillie and taps.
Writing! What started it?
Aside from loving stationary and typography as a kid, needing to write papers in school (and excelling at that) I started “writing” when a college colleague asked me to co-write a comedic screenplay with her.  I did not consider myself a writer, nor was I computer literate at the time.  I learned in short order that I was both a writer, and capable of conquering the computer.  As an actress, I also rose to the challenge from others that I should do stand-up comedy and one woman shows.  This NEVER appealed to me.  I preferred the words of others, and to perform in groups.  But I did not deny my destiny, and once I got up on stage, realized I had quite a facility for telling my own stories (and jokes).  Those tales are now in my three books.  For someone who never wanted to be a writer, I’m a writer.  You can’t fight who you are!
Audiobooks! How did you get into narrating them?
Well, I’m a member of the Screen Actor’s Guild.  They offer lots of fabulous seminars designed to get their union members work.  I’ve gone to a bunch of events and they never seemed to help me book a job.  I went to one on audio books thinking it would be a snooze fest.  When one grows up and wants to be an actress, the goal is usually not to hide behind a microphone and a book.  You want the footlights!  The makeup!  The applause!  However, I had nothing to lose by attending the free lecture.  Once there, something lit up in me.  I realized that not only could I do it, but that I wanted to.  The only thing in my way was the fact that I did not have a sound studio, nor was I an audio engineer and editor.  These skills are required today, as many books are produced by the narrators themselves.  Since Audible, despite my fabulous audition at their headquarters and the producers’ assurance that he would “definitely use me” (ha!) he never did.  Desperation (I was hungry) led me to kick out amateur auditions with the barest of equipment, my laptop and Garage Band software on my Mac.  I booked my first job, and that author hired me 4 more times.  Despite the sound quality not being terrific, she liked my performance!  It snowballed from there, and I now have a home studio and terrific equipment.  I’m an audio engineer!
Is there a genre that you refuse to narrate?
A few, really.  I’m not into erotica or violence.  Now, sex, that’s another thing.  I think sex is great.  But I also think it’s private.  So, short of being a prude, I think some things are best left to the imagination.  I don’t need blow by blows. In the right context, sex is sacred and a key to enlightenment. God knows how to have fun, and she wants us to, too!
Regarding violence, I think going into detail feeds a bloodlust which is best left to die on this planet.  It’s like baiting a dog.  I don’t want to contribute to the low level vibrations on Earth. I enjoyed a SAG screening of “Gone Girl” until the murder, which absolutely traumatized me, as did “The Silence of the Lambs” in its entirety.  Why put that stuff out there?  Do we really need those images haunting our dreams and psyches?  Is the world not fucked enough without contributing to fear and sickness? When you produce that stuff, you grow the darkness on this planet.
Violence is primitive, addictive bullshit best left in the dust.  It’s time mankind seeks higher ground. I’m here to lighten things up.  Laughter is a key. Freedom is a key.  Expression is a key.  Follow your heart.
If you could choose another career what would it be?
Hmmm…I love food and cooking, but don’t think I’d want to be a chef.  A baker, maybe, though I’m very healthy when it comes to that (whole grains, healthy sugars) I’m very spiritual and a lot of fun, so I think I’ve got a future as a personal growth teacher.  It’ll be a natural outgrowth of my three books and my experience as a comedian and performer.  Spirituality should be fun!  Heck, sex is involved, if you’re lucky.  That and chocolate, coffee and wine (in my book, at least!)
Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
I am passionate about the restoration of this planet to her intended glory.  It’s time we come together to heal our bodies and souls and become the magnificent souls that we truly are. I abhor superficiality, and the media encourages the small, the specific, the disposable (and the consumable). If we as individuals truly focus on becoming happier, we will de facto become healthier and more loving.  We will not want to hurt others.  We will not be jealous of others.  There will be no reason to do so.  We are all Gods.  We are Children of God.  The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.  But our apples have been encouraged to rot, to lay fallow, atrophy. Focusing on low energies like smut and violence keep us down, instead of naturally reaching for the heavens, sex, love, joy, health, beauty included. We are all intended to be Olympic champions, Greek Gods.  We are that magnificent. Instead, people worry about their thighs and their cars.  It’s called “distraction”.  And it was calculated.  There have been dark energies controlling this planet for a long time.  Their number is now up, hence all the protests all the time all over the world.  The people are reclaiming their Power and their Planet.
Who is your intended audience and why should they read/listen to your books?
Everyone!  But I’m realistic.  Traditional, conservative folk are not going to go for my stuff. I hope to reach people who may not be as crazy as I am, but are at least open minded about looking at themselves with new eyes, and thereby creating a new world.  The old world (Madison Ave, Hollywood, Washington, Buckingham Palace) is due a fall.  We’ve been living in a dark dream world, a contrived program right out of “The Matrix” and yet the sun shines every day, both outside and inside us.  We need to focus on the Real.  It ain’t on TV or in People magazine.  It’s in your heart.
What is next in your writing?
Oh, more of the same!  I’m always writing about my daily life, but manage to pull in a big picture as I weave my smaller one into it.  I’m great at tying things together and forming profound and hilarious conclusions.  When I’m on a roll in my writing, I crack myself up!  And I know that in laughter is liberation.  Rent or read “The Name of the Rose”.  Laughter is dangerous to the establishment.  It tears all the old walls down.  People do not laugh when they are afraid.  We have been kept in fear for thousands of years.
So, laugh, my friends.  Be irreverent.  Have fun.  Be happy.  Seek bliss.  Settle for nothing less.  And use my books as a tour guide, for I’m superb at analyzing my own journey from the depths of despair, insanity, anxiety and humanity, to the greatest heights of my Divinity.  Rock on!
Thank you Valerie for joining me today, it was such a pleasure!
