There is a slight noise outside of my door, something I think is rather weird as it is the middle of the night. I rub the sleep out of my eyes, and despite my common sense telling me to ignore whatever is happening, I have a feeling that it is important that I don’t. I open the door, and there is a package sitting there. For me? There is also no sign of anyone who would be the delivery person… no surprise there, couriers tend to hit and run. But, not in the middle of the night.
Picking up the box, I bring it into the apartment to see who it is from. All it has on it is my name in bold Elvish scroll. Dozens of questions crowd into my mind.
I read the lettering on the side, it tells me to put the package on its side with the opening facing me. I do this, then unfold the flaps on the box to look inside. There is nothing. Well, not totally nothing, it looks like a scene from a forest inside. I smile. This has to come from Athïan. Yet, there is no sign of starflowers inside, not by sight or smell. A single sentence appears out of nowhere.
I speak the word and a strange glow enters the room. I am suddenly in the box, or so it feels. The woods surround me, and I am in awe of what I am seeing. It has the look of the Elven Empire, and the feel of it, yet I know I am somewhere entirely different. Where am I?
As I touch the flowers that surround me, 18 elves seem to appear out of nowhere. They look friendly, and 14 are vaguely familiar.
We thought it would be easier to bring you here than to all crowd into your apartment. There are so many of us. The first Elf speaks.
We wanted to thank you for bing such help, and to give you a present, one of the women add.
Athïan? I can’t help but wonder if he put them up to it as he has played such a big part of this type of thing in the past.
One of the women gives a shake to her head to let me know this isn’t the case. Not this time. This time it is only us. You see, it was your spirit that we felt guiding our actions through parts of our quest. We wanted you to know that although the journey has been perilous, the end was worth fighting for. We are happy in a way we never have been.
A basket floats across the distance between us to land at our feet. It is full, I can tell by the way it bulges, but I can’t see what is in it. I bend to open it, so I know what I have been given, but I am warned away. It is not to be opened in this world, but in mine.
We will be leaving now, One of the Elves in the group warns.
But I don’t have any answers, I cry out. Surely you won’t leave me not knowing what is going on.
They laugh as one assures me, Of course we would, for now. We may never meet again, but there will be others. We will not forsake you or yours. As quickly as they appeared, they are gone. I am no longer in the box, but there is a basket before me. It says, ‘Do no open until Christmas’ … Do I dare? My hands itch, but my mind hesitates. These are Elves I am dealing with, and most of them are either Eagle Claws, or others who are related to them. Do. I. Dare?

Anyway… 4 of the Elves I met are from book 4 of the Elven Sentinel Series by M. A. Abraham.
Lyra and Raine live on a mountain, next to a ski resort where they teach snow sports on a daily basis. It’s a perfect foil for two Ice Elves who are Guardians of the last portal. Things get interesting when Telion and Riven arrive to escort the two women who are their Life Mates to the Elven Empire. There they find that not only is the portal weak, but inaccessible. As things turn from bad to worse, they are left with no choice but to travel to the deep north to find Pianth.
They are about to find out this is the least of their concerns, for even when they finish with their task, they learn the Elven Empire is preparing to go on a move that is bonded by fire.

The series has been great so far and this last book is no different. I love reading the stories Ms. Abraham weaves, especially the ones that have Elves in it 😉 This one is a short ones as were the other 3 in the series, but didn’t feel short as it packs a punch with the two couples trying to get to their destination and out of the human world before is too late. A perilous journey to say the least and one vengeful greedy woman on their heels. I loved the ending and I am sure you will too, as it hints at things to come and being an Elfanatic, I can’t wait!
