New Year Wish

Hello and welcome!

Another year has passed … where did it go I ask … this year I passed a huge milestone and I’ve been thinking more than usual about … life, family, friends, loyalty, love, health.

This past two years have been challenging for me on many levels and what I learned is that I need to be more loving and more forgiving towards myself, reach for things that I want, be more selfish with my time, say NO more often and do more that make me smile. Books make me smile, discovering new worlds created by such amazing minds make me smile. I will keep collecting book boyfriends … and girlfriends … and new voices to whisper in my ears 😉 found a few that I crush on and I hope I don’t embarrass them when I tell them so.

As we grow older, people leave our life, for various reasons, some by choice, some not so much and it affects us, sometimes with sadness, sometimes with relief. I read this quote recently and it stayed with me: “Celebrate endings – for they precede new beginnings.” It is hard to celebrate something ending, especially if it was not by my choice, but I believe that everything happens for a reason, as life showed me time and time again. I am ready to focus on the hope and light of new beginnings.

Thank you for being here, for your kind words, funny comments, for your support and I hope my posts make you smile and laugh, make you think and make you fall in love. Thanks for being so awesome!

My Chat with DC Cole

Hello and welcome!

I am so excited to share my chat with today’s guest. He is my new eargasm crush and if you listen to his voice you will understand why.

Do you have a nickname?
No, not really. Well, I guess DC is a nickname.

What is one word best describes you?
I guess the depends who you ask! But, since I am the one that is answering, I’ll go with…um…easygoing.

What makes you laugh out loud?
The thing that still gets me every time is when people fall down. I know it’s childish, but it cracks me up every single time. And the more serious the event, the more I laugh. I was at a wedding once where the bride practically face planted while walking down the aisle. Everyone gasped in shock and concern; I had to run out of the church, my hand covering my mouth, barely able to contain my snorts of laughter, tears already at the corners of my eyes. I realized after then that there might be something wrong with me…

What is your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
That is such a hard question! I am feeling a bit nostalgic right now, so I will go with the smell of bacon in a frying pan. It reminds me of Sunday mornings as a kid. Every Sunday morning, I would wake up to that smell.
I don’t know how my mom knew what time I would wake up, or if it was the actually smell of the bacon itself that would wake me, but every single Sunday as a child that would be how I would wake up. I grew up with just me and my mom. Our Sunday routine was always the same, bacon, and other stuff, for breakfast, and then she would crank up the stereo to an obnoxiously loud level and we would clean the house together.
She died a few years ago. But, every time I smell bacon I remember Sunday mornings with mom.
I think it was the bacon waking you up. That is the way I wake up my son on Saturday mornings, the minute it starts cooking, he is there, eyes still closed and hugging me 😉

Favourite place to spend time in.
In the Ocean. Any Ocean. I’m not picky. I like to swim out, just past the point where the waves are breaking, and just float.

Audiobooks! What started them?
I was an actor in the States for a number of years. Then I decided to go on a little trip, which ended up becoming this massive adventure that had me living and owning a bar in Japan for a few years before finally moving to Brazil, where I currently live.
I started listening to audiobooks, and at the same time I was doing a little bit of voice over work, but I paid most of the bills teaching English (which is not something I enjoyed very much). And all I could think of was how much I missed acting. This went on for a year. I worked here and there with my voice, was listening to a ton of audiobooks, and the whole time complained because I couldn’t find a way to be an actor.
Then one day, while listening to Grover Gardner narrate a Lois McMaster Bujold book, it hit me: I should try this. It took me a year and half after that to move into a new home where I could actually make a little studio for myself. And then I just started auditioning.
I for one, I am really happy that you did! Brazil? Beautiful country.

Is there a genre that you would not narrate?
I don’t know… I don’t think so. I have said no to some stuff because I thought I wouldn’t give them a very good performance. I don’t know if that is genre related though.

If you could choose another career what would it be?
Ah…bourbon taste tester. Is that a thing? Maybe run the quality control department for a hammock company.

Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
I don’t think so. I try to adapt to whatever is happening in the text. The thing that I have always loved about being an actor is putting on the skin of a character. So, that is what I try to do. Of course, like all art forms, the way in which one expresses themselves says a lot about them. If you look at it that way, then I guess a lot of the choices I make are pretty telling about my inner-self. But, that is too deep for me and it’s not something I ever think about.
You do that so well, taking the characters and giving them life with passion.

Who is your intended audience and why should they listen to your audiobooks?
My intended audience is… people with ears. Or not. Haha! I have no idea. Each book has a different audience, but I almost never think about that. At least not with fiction. With fiction, I am just trying to see the story and be the characters. With non-fiction it is a little bit different, then I need to pay more attention to who the audience is. But, for me personally, my audience is whoever can stand listening to my voice for hours on end.
Oh I can stand it, believe me 😀

What is next in your narrating work?
I have a few steamy romances on the calendar coming up. I’m looking forward to jumping in the book for those! Also have a suspense book coming out that I am really excited about “Don’t Look Back” by Vicki Tharp. “Under the Shadows“, book 4 in the Alexander Ranch series by Marla Josephs, released a few days ago.

Among them Marla Josephs‘s “Under Suspicion“, a 5-star listen for me, my review is here and just released “Under the Shadows” for which I wish I could give more stars, see my 5-star review I just posted. You know when you love something you have that urge to prolong the experience…. well.. ya… that’s me… listen, then rewind, then listen some more…. then just that phrase hit the right way and I have to rewind 😉 or get lost in the voice and not hear the words, only emotions.

I added quite a few to my TBL list… The Reluctant Series by Marla Josephs, The Heart of a Hero by Amber Burns.

My review for Karev Brothers trilogy – 5 stars “fun, sexy suspense”
I enjoyed listening to the series in one go. Each story had a couple that despite being different and coming from different worlds, thrown together by circumstance, they meshed really well, sparks flying. The stories are short, but fun, suspense with a dash of romance and a few steamy scenes make for an entertaining listen. In the last one the truth behind their father’s murder is revealed, what a twist. Each couple’s story ends in HFN (Happy For Now) and would have been nice to get a glimpse into the future and see where they are.

My first listen from Mr. Cole and I really enjoyed the array of voices and accents, the passion for his craft really shows. I am looking forward to discover more of his work. My fave voice was the one he gave Vlad *sigh*

My fave scenes in all the Elven books are the bonding scenes… Here is the one from “Rising from the Ashes” by M.A. Abraham.

I cannot deny what my soul needs anymore than my body can stop breathing the air it needs to survive. Åndorin, I am yours,” Séreméla declared.

“Åndorin, forever you are mine,” Séreméla answered.

They then spoke the final words of bonding, “Together, we are one.” As they finished, they sealed their vows with a kiss.”

MY REVIEW – 5 stars

Like the many Elfanatics out there, I was so happy the stories from the much loved Elven world were not over. After so many centuries of battle and struggles, the time for peace is here. But there is so much to do to restore the Empire and as in the past, the many kingdoms come together and work side by side to make sure it gets done.

Many of the characters we came to love are making their presence known, along with many new ones. There is laughter, there is heartache but there is also hope as many of the new Life Mate pairings make their way to where they can make their mark, like Séreméla and Åndorin who start a movement that spreads like wildfire and gets everybody mobilized and eager to help with what they can.

An exciting beginning into the new era of the Elven Empire. Looking forward to more.

 

I hope you give this new series a chance. I promise, you will not be sorry.

What is your full name?
Michael Graham Rose, ma’am.

Do you have a nickname?
Just Mike, though Henri calls me Lionheart. he gives me this cheeky grins and I hope I am not drooling

What is one word best describes you?
Aside from Lionheart? That’s difficult. Hmm… let’s say protective.

Describe what you are wearing now to our readers.
Nothing fancy. Cargo pants, an old t-shirt that says “I Like Big Guns” but the lettering is a bit faded. Looks a wee bit like, “I Like Big ’uns”. he gives a toothy grin and I can’t help but laugh

Do you think the author portrayed you accurately?
Och aye, I’d have none other than Amy Jarecki write about my uncompromising, opinionated self.

What makes you laugh out loud?
Henri in the kitchen. That woman is an ace at many things, but give her fire and food and it’s never pretty.

What is your favourite dessert?
There’s nothing better than an old fashioned Scottish bun with raspberry filling. Mmm. he licks his lips
I have to check them out, I love anything raspberry.

What is your favourite drink?
That would be a wee dram of Tulibardine Whisky. Aye, straight up ’cause anything else would spoil the taste.

What is your greatest fear?
Dunna tell Henri, but I’m a bit squeamish with heights.
Aaaah I remember the jump from the cliff, I still shudder thinking about it.

What is your favourite colour?
I’d have to say blue—the colour of Oban Bay on a sunny afternoon.

What do you wear when you go to sleep?
he leans back and rubs a hand down his massive chest What do you reckon I wear, lass?
I reckon… nothing? The way he says ‘lass’… I am melting…

What is the perfect romantic date?
That would be eating takeaway Chinese in the whirlpool bath in my townhouse, overlooking Oban Bay. Candles, good wine, and…ah…you can read about it in Chapter Thirty-Four.
I did and it was very romantic … and hot 😉

How ticklish are you? Where are you ticklish?
I’m a Scot. I’m a spy and an SAS officer. That means I cannot be tickled. Just dunna touch me on the flank…especially if you want to keep your nose in the middle of your face.

What’s your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
Jasmine, yes that’s it. Heady jasmine reminds me of Henrietta Anderson, wild and untamable.

When you look at a woman what catches your interest?
The woman. I’m a man. big shrug What can I say? Women are interesting. I walk into a room, the first thing I do is ensure there’s no threat. The second? Scan for females.

Do you have somebody in your life now?
Och aye I do. Eagle Eyes pinned me down for life in BODY SHOT. That woman is a hellcat through and through.
And a good match for you 😀

What is one word best describes her?
Exotic. Badass. Hell, that’s two…so shoot me.
Errr… I think not. I rather not get into Eagle Eyes’ crosshairs LOL and I agree, I really like her!

Is your book part of a series? What does the future hold for the readers of the series?
Aye, all the books in the series are stand-alone. HUNT FOR EVIL is book one and establishes ICE, the International Clandestine Enterprise located 45 meters under a glacier in Iceland. Mine is BODY SHOT, book two, but not number two. If you ask me it’s the best in the whole series. Next will be MACH ONE, releasing January 2nd, with Aussie pilot Luke Fox and the mysterious Mia with no last name. I’m anxious to discover the trouble Fox dives into when he’s sent to Mexico to destroy the evilest drug cartel on the planet.

The ICE series is quite different from the Highlander stories I listened to from the author and so worth reading/listening to.

“excellent”
Overall 5 stars; Performance 5 stars; Story 5 stars
The first book in the series was a 5-star listen, this one is too and so much more. Maybe because Mike picked my interest in book 1, and Mr. Froomkin brought him to life with passion, his Scot brogue is to die for *sigh* his voice is so versatile it was a pleasure to listen. Kept pressing rewind on some scenes 😀
Ms. Jarecki pairs Mike, an Alpha male with a warm heart and Henri, a fearless, determined woman and they do get their HEA, the journey is exciting, suspenseful, mixed with some hawt scenes.
This will go onto my relisten list for sure.
I can’t wait for book 3!

Dance of the Dragon Sorceress, book 3 in Tangere Tales

If you are following my blog, you know I read books 1 and 2 in the Tangere Tales by Heather Rainier. I fell in love with that world. I just finished book 3, Dance of the Dragon Sorceress, released on December 1, 2017.

Basile and Rainger are sworn to defend and foster the baby dragons of the Eastern Kingdom. While searching for the heir to the dragon king’s throne, they fall under the spell of a bewitching brunette. Desire takes a back seat to duty because they must find the baby dragon before it falls into the hands of the evil queen, Draconia.

Seeking shelter from a storm for herself and the odd little stray she picked up, Elaina takes refuge in the stronghold of the Knights of the Order of the Dragon. She’s discovered sound asleep with the tiny dragon king curled up beside her, and mayhem ensues when the prince, the huntsman, and the seven knights learn firsthand she’s not some damsel in distress.

When Draconia learns of the enchanting beauty has stolen the hearts of the men whom she desires for herself, she sets a plan into motion that endangers Basile and Rainger’s love for Elaina before it’s barely begun.

I have to say this is my fave tale so far of the Tangere series. It is Snow White’s story, but with spice AND dragons. Ms. Rainier! You had me at dragons LOL
Just as the previous two tales in the series, this story takes us from the contemporary world of Elaina’s camping trip to the fantasy world of Tangere.

I laughed out loud at the names Elaina was coming up with for the little dragon she found and the expressions she confounded the men with. With her backpack full of stuff, no wonder they thought she was a sorceress, the lightsaber scene was hilarious 😀

The Dragon Knights replace the dwarves in this adaptation and them being named with colour names in French is a great touch. The Skittles crew indeed LOL
Selena is one mischievous Fae Princess and I have to laugh how the men are scared of her. I wonder if Sir Violet will capture her heart finally.

I am glad Elaina found Rainger and Basile and they get their HEA, but their journey is quite deadly. She was able to assist in defeating Draconia, now that one is an evil power-hungry woman! shudder

The ending was so happy, loved the reunion of the friends and the banter. Zayrgrud’s future Queen, Faerhyss will be a handful for sure, especially if the Dragon Nanny will be her trainer LOL

No. I don’t. I think I’m the only one who doesn’t.

What one word best describes you?
Well, I guess that would depend on who’s doing the describing. his mischievous grin is killing me But, okay. One word? I’ll just say fun.

Describe what you are wearing now to our readers.
Oh, man. I didn’t dress fancy. Jeans and a t-shirt doesn’t sound chic. But, they’re really nice jeans with a really soft t-shirt. Want to feel?
Is the sky blue?
Oh that is really soft!
I am shamelessly taking advantage of the opportunity 😉

Do you think the author portrayed you accurately?
Yeah, for the most part. I think she tones me down a bit. She doesn’t let me get too wild. But, otherwise, it’s pretty spot on.

What makes you laugh out loud?
Oh, man. What doesn’t? he laughs I’m a pretty easy-going guy that laughs easily. But, getting Lela, Jordan, Daisy, or any of the crew riled up is pretty funny. I do that a lot.
I know, you do like to stir things up, I enjoyed your antics.

What is your favourite dessert?
he laughs a naughty laugh You mean of the food variety? Hm, okay. I’d have to go with chocolate if I’m sharing. Sharing chocolate can get interesting. But, for me personally, I like lemon flavors. Doesn’t really matter what.

What is your favourite drink?
Well, if I go by what I drink the most, I’d have to say tea. I really like tea.

What is your greatest fear?
That’s an interesting question. I’m not really a fearful guy. I’ve been frightened before, of course. But …yeah. I don’t know. The only thing that comes to mind is driving down the street and having the front wheels of my car fall off for no reason. I actually have these thoughts sometimes while driving. Makes no sense, but I do. he laughs That sounds silly. Of course, I’m concerned about the safety of the team whenever we’re in dangerous situations. But, I don’t think I have time to actually fear anything then. I’m too busy trying to keep myself and everyone else safe.

What is your favourite colour?
Emerald. I just love that color.

What do you wear when you go to sleep?
Um…well. Let’s just say I don’t own any pajamas.
I bet you don’t.

What is the perfect romantic date?
The perfect romantic date is the one you create for the person you’re with. Everyone is different. But, when you really know what she likes, and she doesn’t have to tell you, she will know you planned it just for her. And, it will be the perfect date.
How can I not fall in love with him? SIGH

How ticklish are you? Where are you ticklish?
I’m not that ticklish. I do have a couple of places, but I’m not telling.

What’s your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
You sure are making this hard to keep PG. I grin at him Let’s see. I’d have to say maybe the smell of fresh baked pastries in the morning. You know how the streets in Paris used to smell when all of the patisseries were baking all the pastries for the day? That’s the smell I love. It reminds me of home.
Oh I love that smell! I used to work in a French restaurant and loved the opening shift because the baking was done early in the morning mmmm

When you look at a woman what catches your interest?
Lots of things. I think though that maybe the eyes and smile get me the most. Yeah, I think I’d better stick with the eyes and smile just to be on the safe side.

Yes. I do.

What is one word that best describes her?
Wow, only one word? I’m going to have to go with perfect then.

Is your book part of a series? What does the future hold for the readers of the series?
Yes. Under Suspicion is actually the first book of a new spin-off series. And, it is the first one where I am one of the main characters. But, I am in all of the other books from the original series as well. I’m not one of the two main characters, but I feel like everyone on the team are all main characters. I love this gig and will be around as long as everyone wants me here.

As far as the future of the series, I don’t know specifics. But, I know there are more books coming in both series. We are working on them now. The main Alexander Ranch series will still follow Lela and Jordan as the main characters. But, my understanding is that this new series, Alexander Consulting and Investigations, will still focus on a specific case in each book, but the main characters, or the ones being focused on will change.

This case has Ethan working with Sasha to find out who is harassing a teacher at the local school and trying to frame their client. Or, is their client guilty? As the letters turn from harsh accusations to hostile threats, the team must work fast to solve this one before someone gets hurt.

I listened to the audiobook and I wish I could give more than 5 stars

I want an Ethan 😉 

I am in love with Ethan, the hero of this story. It is my first book from Ms. Josephs and I know it is not the last. I am impressed by her style, the story is captivating, keeping me in suspense till the twist when we find out who is behind all the bad stuff happening and OMG you will not believe who it is. While the investigation is happening we have Ethan and Sasha meeting and let me tell you, the sparks are flying. Him, overprotective alpha with a funny side, her, spunky and independent. Good match! Love the light paranormal but realistic touch, I hope the series continues because I want more.
Told by one of my fave voices, a recent addition, Mr. Cole is perfect for the story. Loooove the voice he gave Ethan, warm with quiet strength you can’t help but notice it, just like the hero. A must listen!

After listening to this story, I had to go and check out the original series, I have to tell you, I devoured them and I am itching to listen to more!
