Secret Heart Ink series

Hello and welcome!

Today is the release of Spring Fever, book 2 in the Secret Heart Ink series by Deborah Cooke, one of the few authors whose books are on my one-click list for a few decades now. If you missed my chat with Ms. Cooke, check it out here.

Secret Heart Ink is a series of contemporary romance novellas and a spin-off series Flatiron 5 series which has 3 books out, the 4th coming July 31, 2018.

Each month, on the full moon, Chynna does a special tattoo that brings true love to the recipient. Secret Heart Ink tells the stories of those characters and their HEA’s.

It introduces three women from Honey Hill, Maine. They’ve been best friends forever and have a girls’ weekend in Manhattan to celebrate Olivia getting her doctorate. Liv is the science nerd. Lexi is the party-girl. Reyna is the cupcake queen. They’re three smart, fun women and I think you’ll enjoy their stories. I’m also pretty sure we’ll see more of Honey Hill in future.

BOOK 1 – SNOWBOUND

My review – 5 stars
A great start to this new series. Loved following Olivia’s education not only in cooking and enjoying food as more than sustenance, but changing her mind about love too. The way Spencer turns her carefully laid plans of “tasting” him into a seduction of the senses makes me crave him too 🙂 Did the magical tattoo help? I think it did!
I love Ms. Cooke’s writing style and the way her characters are so alive. I can’t wait for the next book.

BOOK 2 – SPRING FEVER

Reyna knows happily-ever-after isn’t in her future…
But after three years of solitude, Reyna is ready for a fling. She’s learned her lesson with bad boys and long-term expectations, so her neighbor’s visiting nephew is the perfect man to lead into temptation. But Kade has a gift for breaking her rules and ensuring Reyna doesn’t regret it, which means one night becomes two…

Kade was always waiting for the right woman, and one night with Reyna convinces him that he’s found her. It’s more than great sex and good conversation: Reyna’s determination to shape her life inspires him to rebuild his own, and he knows they’ll be a great team. All he has to do is convince her to take a chance on him and forever. When Reyna’s past catches up to them both, will it destroy their new partnership before the future begins?

My review – 5 stars
A great addition to the series, Spring Fever is following the same idea as book 1, but quite a different story altogether. Kade is so lovable, you’d have to try really hard not to fall in love with him. Reyna despite her resistance for most of the book, falls for him and together they are better prepared to heal their scars from the past. There is a HFN ending which is awesome in my book. Tristan, a very smart raven and Chynna’s sidekick, is quite a character, adding a magic hint to the series. I hope book 3 is coming soon.

BOOK 3 – ONE HOT SUMMER NIGHT

This is Lexi and Gabriel’s story and a second-chance-at-love romance. We meet them in book 1, Snowbound. It just takes one hot night to bring the past to the present all over again.

It will be published this summer and I CAN’T WAIT!!!!

Hmm, jaded probably. I’ve been through the ringer with colleagues.

Describe what you are wearing now to our readers.
You want to know what I’m wearing? Can I change first? Or maybe strip down? It’s messy work I do.
I don’t think Sophia would appreciate me watched you to strip, but don’t let that stop you 😛

Do you think the author portrayed you accurately?
Yeah, you know, I think she understands me pretty well. She sure knew what I was looking for in a lady.

What makes you laugh out loud?
Sophia. That woman can take me to highs and lows in the space of a breath.

What is your favourite dessert?
Can I say Sophia? Will that be alright? he grins mischievously

What is your favourite drink?
Whiskey, probably.

What is your greatest fear?
Now that I have her, losing my darling Sophia. She’s pretty much everything to me.

What is your favourite colour?
Amber. The color of Sophie’s eyes. Love that woman.

What do you wear when you go to sleep?
ahem The same thing I’m wearing straight out of the shower.

What is the perfect romantic date?
An evening sitting on the deck of my ship… a little cheese… wine… out on the ocean… with the moon as big as my eyes when I first saw Sophia.
I remember that, you were smitten at first sight.

How ticklish are you? Where are you ticklish?
Me? Ticklish? Um, maybe. But only Sophie knows where.

What’s your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
The sea… it’s peaceful. But these days, just about everything puts me in mind of my lovely wife.

When you look at a woman what catches your interest?
Intelligent eyes. I can’t seem to tear my gaze away from those.

Do you have somebody in your life now?
I do. Sophia Vanderwahl MacAuley. She’s the only woman I’ll ever have eyes for again.

What is one word best describes her?
Spunky, intelligent, beautiful… oh yeah, you said just one.

Is your book part of a series? What does the future hold for the readers of the series?
No, no series yet. But I’m part of a collection, and I keep trying to get Tanya to write about Kell. Don’t you think he deserves a good woman?

Although suspicious of her motives, Jack MacCauley needs the money to finance his expedition. In this light-hearted seafaring romance, Jack and Sophie learn to trust each other as lovers and friends.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by one of my voice crushes, Braden Wright. I had a chat with him a few years ago, check it out here if you missed it.

My review: 5 stars
I enjoyed listening to Mr. Wright perform this awesome story. I love his voices, the passion with which he brings the characters and story to life. My fave was Jack’s voice. YUM
Ms. Crosby really knows how to make a story shine. Historicals are not my first go-to genre, but the way the author portrays heroines that do not conform to the norm is very much to my liking and I liked Sophie despite her being a disaster magnet, she cracked me up with her reactions. The chemistry between her and Jack was palpable and once they gave in, it was magic. Ending with an HEA, my fave kind, left me giddy, a 5-star experience for sure.

KEEPING 6 by Freya Barker

If you remember I took part of the cover reveal back in April for an upcoming release from Freya Barker. It did release on May 2, 2018 and it starts a new romantic suspense series, the Rock Point series.

Bookstore owner Kerry Emerson finally seems to be back in control of her life. Her failure of a marriage firmly in her rearview mirror and her recent business expansion a success, she is in charge of her own future. One that is looking better than ever. The sight of the tall man, with the familiar salt and pepper goatee pushing open the door of her store, sets her hair on end. He doesn’t exactly bring good memories.

FBI Special Agent in Charge, Damian Gomez, is just looking for a decent cup of coffee when he walks into the small store offering books and brew. The pretty, feisty woman behind the counter is an unexpected surprise. Not at all unpleasant, especially since her finger that used to hold a wedding ring is now bare. Her wild hair, boho style and silvery grey eyes suddenly hold a lot of promise. But when his office is pulled into an international investigation into the trafficking of rare books and manuscripts, the straight-laced SAC realizes he has to keep his distance from the woman who might well be involved.

Easier said than done, since fate seems determined to throw them together.

I had the opportunity to read an ARC and here are my thoughts on it.

When I first saw the cover I was intrigued. The title had me thinking. After reading the book, I am impressed by the author’s ability of inviting me in this new world and making it so easy to stay for a while. The story is a balanced mix of suspense and romance, fast paced all the way thru. Damian’s family is hilarious, enjoyed seeing their close-knit relationship. Loved the fact that Kerry and Damian are mature characters that I can relate to, their relationship is fast developing but feels real. The other thing I liked is that I didn’t have a clue who the main bad guy was until almost the end, so had me turning the pages to find clues. It ends with a HFN which is satisfying. Looking forward to more in the future books in the series.

Freya Barker loves writing about ordinary people with extraordinary stories. Driven to make her books about ‘real’ people; with characters who are perhaps less than perfect, but just as deserving of romance, thrills and chills, and some hot, sizzling sex in their lives.

A recipient of the RomCon “Reader’s Choice” Award for best first book, “Slim To None”, and Finalist for the Kindle Book Award with “From Dust”, Freya has not slowed down.

She continues to add to her rapidly growing collection of published novels as she spins story after story with an endless supply of bruised and dented characters, vying for attention!
