My Chat with Rebecca Cook

Hello and welcome!

My guest today is a lady whose voice I came to love while listening to audiobooks by Michelle M. Pillow, a voice that is absolutely wonderful, voices she creates for the different characters, male AND female, and their emotions are portrayed beautifully!

Welcome Rebecca Cook!

Thanks for coming to my little corner of the blogging worldI just love this pic, you look like you are a sunny, fun person to be around.
This was on the set of John Carpenter’s The Ward. We got to burn down a house!

Do you have a nickname?
Well, my family calls me Becky and in high school some friends gave me the moniker Roadkill. No real good story behind it, but it did stick for a while. Sadly.

What is one word best describes you?
Storyteller

What makes you laugh out loud?
So many things!!!  I am a cat person, so the internet videos get me, like the rest of the world, but usually it is the things that come out of my nieces’ and nephews’ mouths.  Kids are hilarious!

What is your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
Popcorn.  I love the smell of movie theaters.  I do a lot of work in the film industry and as an actor and a filmmaker, some of my favorite moments have been in movie theaters.  Movies had a lot to do with who I am and where I am today.  Plus, hot buttered popcorn is amazing.

Favourite place to spend time in.
My bed!  But, if I’m leaving the house, send me to the Oregon Coast any day. 🙂

Is there a genre that you refuse to read/narrate?
Self help books or sales books. I’m really not a non-fiction reader, in general, but my voice does not belong in a self help book. I would probably narrate one if I believed in it, but I have a hard time thinking I’d fit well in that genre.

Audiobooks! What started them?
Well, I have always loved acting and when I was younger, I thought I’d never make it as an actor, so I’d work in radio and enjoy a life of community theatre.  I have degrees in both radio and theatre and have actually used them both quite a lot to pay my bills, thankfully.  My dad is a big fan of books and especially audiobooks, so when I had the opportunity to audition for a local company, it was a pretty amazing opportunity. I had no idea that I would love it as much as I do.
I am glad you did and it really shows you enjoy your work when listening to your narrations.

If you could choose another career what would it be?
Film director.  But I get to do some of that.  I’d probably be a great party planner!

Can you tell us a tidbit from your work in the film industry?
As a wardrobe supervisor, I’ve worked with lots of famous actors and am known for always telling the story of how Antonio Banderas sent me flowers. Seriously, I tell it a lot. Wouldn’t you? 🙂
You met Antonio? *sigh* I definitely would 😀

Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
Tons of them!  I work in lots of genres, so it really falls on the authors to define it, but I get to really dig in and make it come to life.  I love that.  I love when I get well-written, individual characters with strong voices.  I like my work to give a unique voice to each character in a book so listeners don’t have to work to figure out who is speaking.  I like to keep the audience engaged in the story and forget it’s just me and my one voice.

Who is your intended audience and why should they listen to your audiobooks?
Well, I’d like the entire world to be my audience, but I think I am most loved in the romance world.  I’m growing a fan base in the paranormal/urban fantasy world, but I just want people to enjoy the stories. That’s why I’m here.

What is next in your narrating work?
I just finished The Lost Artist by Gail Lukasik, which should be released soon and I’m currently working on Witch Hunt by Devin O’Branagan which should be out in early April.  I’m a busy girl!

Wishing you lots of busy times 😀 I am looking forward to listen to more audiobooks narrated by you. Thank you for chatting with me today!

Hope you enjoyed today’s chat and you will give a chance to Rebecca Cook’s audiobooks. I reallyreallyreally like her voice.

Here is one of my reviews of one of the audiobooks narrated by Ms. Cook for Fighting Lady Jayne: Divinity Warriors, Book 2
by Michelle M. Pillow

“wow”
Overall 5 stars • Performance 5 stars • Story 5 stars
“One of the best narrations I’ve heard. I am really impressed with Ms. Cook’s ability to modulate her voice to fit the story, characters and emotions, especially the male voices. I really enjoyed this story of Lady Jane and her warrior Lord Ronan. Their journey to HEA was a hard one and I love how the author had me glued to the story, not once had my attention waned. I laughed, I cried, I got mad along with the characters. Really liked Lady Jane, she is smart one with a snarky lovable attitude, even though I didn’t always liked her behaviour, but learning more of her life, I understood why she behaved the way she did. Ronan is all warrior with a soft heart and he finally managed to break her defences? I was so happy for the ending, but I would have liked to see her kick some Divinity ass. Great choice in narrator Ms. Pillow, thank you for enjoyable hours of listening.”

Here is another one:

Rebecca Cook lives and works in the Spokane area, primarily in film and theater. She’s worked as an actress, director, costumer, make-up artist and stage manager with several companies throughout the region. From an early age, Rebecca knew in her heart she was a storyteller. There have been many exciting experiences that formed her professional life, including six years working in radio, founding a community theater, teaching in college theatre departments and assistant directing The Miracle Worker directed by Patty Duke. For the last several years, she has been working as the Wardrobe Supervisor and Set Costumer on over 20 feature films, as well as other commercial productions. She has recorded commercial and documentary voice-overs, as well as bringing to life over 50 audiobooks, for authors like Christine Feehan, Jennifer Ashley and Lucia St. Clair Robson. In 2012, she had the pleasure of directing the award winning short film, The Birthday, and has wrapped her second short film, Root Bound. Because she can’t get enough of the sound of her own voice, she has been asked to speak to many theater students and local professionals about her journey creating a life in the arts. She is thrilled to be spending her life doing so many things she loves.
