Hello and welcome!
Today I have an author I adore, especially her wicked mind. I had her heroes for a chat …. twice… once with Sabre and once with ALL four hunks. It is very hard to choose, read her books and you will understand 😉 I also had the honour of meeting her in person a few times.
Please welcome Marianne Maguire!
Marianne Maguire was born on the Canadian prairies, when platform heels and bell bottom pants where groovy, while Johnny Cash and ABBA were what all the cool kids listened to on their record players. Often as a child she would go off on her own to explore the forest, armed only with her imaginary friends and a peanut butter sandwich, in search of wild adventures then come home to tell tall tales about what she had found to anyone that would listen.
Today you can often find Marianne on her acreage she shares with her husband of 20+ years near Toronto, Ontario, Canada, taming her gardens and usually with her band of merry four legged children. She still grooms and trains dogs, has a persistent preoccupation for reading and surfing the web and a huge obsession for anything undead. Visit her at http://www.mamaguire.com to find our what’s next in the Legacy Series.
Do you have a nickname?
Yes, my darling husband calls me Wiggy. I’m not sure when this started or why but there it is. We’ve been together for over 20 years and in the beginning it drove me crazy but now I think it means wing nut or wigged out, cause I’m a little cray-cray y’all, lol.
What is one word that best describes you?
Unique, I have never followed what is expected, if my Mom was still with us today she would be shaking her head in agreement. I love being a free spirit with my own individuality.
What makes you laugh out loud?
I love to laugh, almost anything my dogs, Rupert, Merlin and Buddy do gets me chuckling, seriously they are clowns.
I love dry humor, or anything caused by my own clumsiness, I do some pretty dumb things.
They are so cute, I love Merlin especially, the gentle giant.
What is your favourite smell? What does it remind you of?
Funny you ask this, my husband is always making fun of me for smelling everything. He says, “Everything up the nose.”
But if I have to nail down one smell as a favourite, I would have to say the forest after a hard rain. Nature is my sanctuary, the place I have always gone to, even as a child, for comfort and after a rain storm it has a million fresh scents all in one that just make me feel like I’m safe and home. I have always lived close to a forest of some sort so I have many memories that come alive with that smell.
You are not alone in smelling everything, I do it too 😉
Favourite place to spend time in.
The outdoors, of course but also my office. If I’m not knee deep in my garden, covered in mud, twigs, bugs and God only knows what, than you’ll find me locked in my office with puppies at my feet while I tap away at my keyboard.
Is there a genre that you refuse to read?
Not that I have found as of yet, but of course I’m very partial to paranormal.
Writing! What started it?
I think I have always been a storyteller, even as a child. I would go off for the day into the woods to one of my forts or for walks deep into the trees by myself, no one would ever know where I went but I always came home with a tale and my family always listened. The writing came much later, only 4 years ago to be exact. I had just lost both my parents to cancer, a dark time for me. I felt very alone and at a loss as to who I was. I began to journal my thoughts to help me deal with what I was feeling at the time, it was an ugly mess at first but in time I got ideas from experiences I had or places I had been. In March of 2011, I sat at my desk and began to type, in a short 30 days I created my first manuscript, Born. I guess the rest, as they say, is history.
If you could choose another career what would it be?
I have worn many hats in my life, I studied to be a chef and worked in the industry for almost 20 years, not as a chef but as a waitress, bartender, and eventually I owned and operated my own pub. I also was a roofer, truck driver, shoe sales women, model, dog groomer, and business owner, there hasn’t been much I haven’t tried. I have never really chosen a career, I’ve been interested in many things and just tried them, the ones I really enjoyed are the ones I stuck with. So if I had to choose another career I would have to wait to see what came along so I could give it a go. I think I will stick with author though, it really is the best job ever and I can create any career I wish, whenever I want and when it gets boring, I’ll create another one.
Also, I prefer the word adventure over career, I think whatever you do in life, you have to enjoy it, be happy doing it. The word career does not sound happy and I see too many people with careers that are just plain miserable, that doesn’t seem fun at all. Find an adventure and be happy.
Audiobooks! Any plans to have any of your books in audio format?
I would love to have an audiobook but that is in the hands of my publisher. Sorry I can’t give you more than that.
Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
I never set out to give any sort of message but I do write about strong women, that is very important to me. I was raised to believe I could do anything and I have tried to do just that in my own life, so I make sure that my characters are of the same mind set. All women are beautiful, creative, brave, strong, smart and incredible beings, no matter what shape, size, colour or race they are. If my books or even my own story help someone do better in life or get through something difficult, well, that will be a priceless moment for me and make this the best damn job in the world.
Who is your intended audience and why should they read your books?
Anyone over 21 with a heartbeat, who loves a good story with many twists and turns in a fantasy world full of hot dreamy characters that enjoy steamy sex, because who wouldn’t want to read that.
What is next in your writing?
With Born and Inheritance, book 1 & 2 of the Legacy Series, out now, my readers will probably be excited to hear I am working on book 3 and hope to have it done by the end of this year. This one is from a different character’s point of view and is taking a little longer to write as I also must set up for book 4 and 5. Yes, I plan on continuing the series and hope to have many more books to come. Sorry, I am keeping the titles and characters secret for now, remember good things take time to create so please be patient with me. I promise it will be worth it!
Thank you so much Marianne for coming for this chat. I am so looking forward to reading the next book, especially that I have an inkling who is the main character. Can you write faster? 😀
Thanks for dropping by and I hope you enjoyed the chat.
I really hope you will give a chance to the series. I recommend it to anybody who likes paranormal romance with a twist… or two and really hot scenes that warrant for some ice cold drinks and an industrial fan by your side. Check out the characters of the Legacy Series here. where is my bucket of ice cubes?
my review: I thought I’ve read every sub genre of paranormal romance, but this book proves that I was mistaken. A unique take on the genre mixing vampire, wolf shifter, demon mixed with suspense, laughter and lots of hot, sexy scenes. Love September, her down to earth attitude and quirky comebacks that had me burst out laughing. She gets the surprise of her life when she finds out her legacy, but with the help of her court comprised of sexy hunks, Sabre, Gage, Magennis and Chris she comes out on top and out of her shell. A great debut novel to a series that shows we’ll have more entertainment coming our way.
The second book, INHERITANCE was released on June 12, 2015 ….. it is sooooo yummy….
my review: Continuing the story from the first book, “Born”, Ms. Maguire takes us deeper in the intricate world surrounding September. Quite a few twists in the story and new revelations about her men who are her consorts, funny moments, romance, hot love scenes, intrigue and intense battle scene makes this a great read. I can’t wait for more!!!
Links to keep in touch with Ms. Maguire and her books, give her a like and if you chat with her, say hello from me. You should like her page on Facebook, she has posting days with sexy shoes and oh-so-yummy-drool-worthy Wet Wednesdays *sigh* among other sexy posts. Ms. Maguire’s Pinterest is a place worth checking out too.
One lucky reader will win an ebook copy of “BORN”, courtesy of Ms. Maguire. The winner will be chosen by Sexy Mr. Random from the comments after 3pm EST on Monday, September 14, 2015. Good luck!
Until next time read a book, listen to a book and don’t forget to show your love by leaving a review!
